I am just coming to the end of the planking of the upper part of the ship and have run into a problem. Issue 31 asks for us to add two layers of short planking at the bow 142mm long- the problem is I do not have enough frame available for them to sit on.
One layer of planking sits flush with the top of the bulkhead. I could taper the planking but to squeeze two in would make them too thin. I could build up the frame a little but then the top of the plank will not sit flush with the bulkhead
Any solutions to this would be much appreciated

Hi Steviegio, It sounds to me as though you not tapered the planks enough. I wouldn't be too alarmed about this for now as in issue 60 you will be dealing with the height of the bulwarks then so any adjustments you need to make if any can be carried out at that point. gaz is right, just leave it for now, and when you get further on you should be able to sort it out. it may require you to cut some of the strips you have already fitted, but it's difficult to know exactly without seeing a picture. Come on you Jimmies

Thanks chaps for the advice. You are correct I havent tapered the planks enough. I will take youre advice and fit one layer for now and will look to adjust later on

if you look at the offical build photoes its shoues the second plank abouve the frames the second plank is so you have plenty of wood on top of the frames and is easer to cut down to the tops of the frames when its needs as its cut at an angle formed by the different hight of the frames

As Willie says, If you look at MrT's build; the picture where he measures 14mm down from the top, you can see there is very little of the top plank touching the frame. I cut down the width of the first 142mm plank ,and then put a full size plank in above, which gave about 2mm of frame to pin to; and angled the pins down to secure it to the frames. I managed to get pins into the first four frames, then held the back with a mini clamp and masking tape. That left me 16mm height on the sides. Mal. Mal.
