Hi everyone...........just wondering if there are any views out there on the suggested colour scheme for the launch. The interior of burgundy looks O.K., although there is no reference to a "burgundy" in the Admiralty colour schemes available from Cornwall modelling. The white definitely appears to be "not right". I have no evidence just a gut feeling as to what a launch of the period would have looked like...and white doesn't seem quite right. I was minded towards a "timber" look with say a walnut varnish. Anyone any thoughts ??

hi mike, interesting thoughts,ref:-white? as the hull was white why the doubt,I can only presume that white was not available at that time?wrong mate, the captain and bosun used what was available at the time from the ships or shore store,as the launch was the dog's body used for many tasks, and would have been painted many times, the paints that were available at that time is a little obscure.black, yellow ochre, red ochre, olive, french blue and WHITE,as they include the primary colours any colour could be made up.the royal navy at that time were sticklers for shipshape and bristol fashion so painting in general was done on a daily basis.which gives you an artiste lincence to do what you please.

I have painted my launch as the magazine and Mr T suggests.
I have however, ordered another issue that contains the launch parts, and am going to build another launch and stain and varnish it. I'll just then use whichever I think looks best.
For an extra £5.99, its well worth it.
If you are looking at alternative paint schemes, check out http://www.deagostinipas.../forums/show/20331.page which is the Italian website with their build diaries.
Model boats built so far:-

Billings Cutty Sark
Scratch built twin IC RC Vosper MTB.
Scratch built rc electric hybrid.
Scratch built rc IC hydrofoil (ran happily on snow as well as water!)
Plus numerous numerous RC planes.

Under construction
Sovereign of the Seas!
1200:1 HMS Victory (by Mantua)
The Battleship Yamato (seriously considering building as an RC model)
