Hi Chaps The tenons on parts 34 have about 1.5mm lateral clearance in the mortices in part 44 What do I do about this please? Bob

Mine was exactly the same Bob. I dry built the whole section, and then glued them into the correct position. Then I filled the little gap with a small bit of scrap wood. Model boats built so far:-
Billings Cutty Sark
Scratch built twin IC RC Vosper MTB.
Scratch built rc electric hybrid.
Scratch built rc IC hydrofoil (ran happily on snow as well as water!)
Plus numerous numerous RC planes.
Under construction
Sovereign of the Seas!
1200:1 HMS Victory (by Mantua)
The Battleship Yamato (seriously considering building as an RC model)

Off the top of my head no,sorry. I cant even look in there now to check, as I have done all the planking and cant see it anymore. It only takes a min or two to figure out when you assemble the whole unit. Den Model boats built so far:-

Hi Everyone. The clearance in question is so you have got adjustment for everything to be square and in line. I dry fitted mine and it came out spot on and no filler pieces needed  . Best regards all. Mark

Hi Bob, the one thing I do before I do anything on my build is follow very closely Mr T's official build diary... he highlights very well some of the problems we are likely to encounter..... Strongly recommend to follow his build.... For me, it was exactly the same however, I am finding my struts no 45 have the small gap at the bottom of the gallery and not the top. As long as everything is square then you will find it will fit together nicely.....  Regards Alan

again you seem to be trying to stir something up about the quality of the model. as i have said before there will always be some problems with a mass produced kit. not everyone building this is an expert, for lots of people this will be the first kit they have ever made, there must be a bit of wiggle room so that those without experience, and without a lot of tools can build a nice model. i chose the word nice on purpose, as there are a lot of builders on the forum, including me, that just want a nice finished model, at the same time there are people who have been building for many years who will alter parts or source new parts to ensure their model is the best it can possibly be. from what i can gather bob, you seem to be a very experienced model boat builder, so surely with your experience you can get around the very small 0.02" clearence problems without constant critisism of how the model is designed. you could do what a lot of people do, stop building, keep collecting, and find out what problems there may be in the future, so that you are prepared for them and will know what to do to sort them out. the wood needs a clearance to get the wood glue in you can not get glue in to a tight fit it will scrape it off

I think my thread title of "Sloppy fit" has mis-lead some of you chaps into thinking that I was offering criticism of some sort
I was referring to the lateral clearance in the mortice and tenon and is my way of describing a loose fit
My reference to the clearance of only 0.020" was actually praise!

Bob Bob im sorry but it comes across that you revel in posting stuff like this to stir things up and this isn't the 1st time, now that people have said something your trying the Mr innocent tack, as has been pointed out in another post you seem an experienced builder with your list of completed models and the posts are something a compleat beginner would ask and should be easy to sort if you have any experience at building these models regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .
