Well done Andy, and a great addition to the know-how topic. I'm sure that you'll improve future castings now you are familair with the process.

Hi Ger C I think this would reproduce the Akagi aircraft just fine the only problem is working out if its best to cast in full or in parts , I may try this myself too regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Great tutorial Andy and much appreciated!!
Overall I think it's all come out very well for a first attempt and I'm sure that as you get to understand the process more and more then the end results will get even better? Well done!!
Regards the problem with the small air bubbles, I reckon if you were to use a vibrating device of some sort (I'll leave you to decide what to use!! ) and hold it against the mould box whilst the resin was still wet and fluid, then the bubbles will rise to the top of the resin and leave you with a perfectly finished part? When I was younger I used to work with my Dad laying concrete in building structures such as footings, piles and pillars, etc, and we used to use a vibrating 'poker' on the end of a long 'flexi-drive' that was attached to an auxiliary petrol engine and the bubbles used to absolutely fizz out of the wet concrete as it was vibrated!! Give it a go Andy and I'm sure you'll eradicate those bubbles every time?? Should work when you are making the silicone moulds as well??
Keep up the good work mate!!

Hi Kev I agree with your thoughts about the results but as the song says 2 outa 3 aint bad .As for your thoughts on the vibrating it was mentioned in the instructions ie tapping the mould or using vibration to stop this. The casting medium set a little too fast for me so I rushed the last casting I think that caused the air bubbles.Next time I will try using a little less catalyst maybe try 1/;90% instead of the 1:1 so I should have a little more time but also now I now its setting time I will be more ready. Thanks again for your interest regards Andy Ps The casting medium should have a 1 hour setting time but at 1:1 it went off in minutes and was set after about 10 but im quite happy with the results and not bad for a first attempt Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .
