Hi everybody, does anybody know of anywhere that sells bamboo strips, as comes supplied with the s.o.t.s? It looks like I'm home alone all over Xmas, and doing some more planking on my s.o.t.s will pass the time on nicely. I have tried every model shop etc that I can think of, and have drawn a blank.  Did a quick search on tinternet and found several companys suplying various bamboo products but only in several tons and a monthly order  ,will keep looking but as this is new material to modelling it might be difficult to obtain regards Andy  Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Thanks Andy, thats what I found as well, or just large strips for furniture making. There is another option which my smart ***e mrs has just suggested. Why dont I buy myself a few issue 16's from the newsagents, that come complete with bamboo strips. Only problem is, every newsagent for miles around, stopped stocking the magazine after about the 3rd issue.  Model boats built so far:-

Hi Dennis,
You'll be lucky to find model grade bamboo strips on the open market and also finding enough unsold copies on the shelf, because after about issue 6, most newsagents drop back to customer order only, even so it would be an expensive task.
A cheaper alternative might be to consider ditching the bamboo all together, and consider a standard first plank wood such as basswood/limewood, where it can be purchased in 1m lengths and therefore fitted in longer lengths., CMB and Caldercraft can supply, though at this stage you might not receive it before Xmas. Possibly try The Model Shop in Crossgates Leeds.

Hi Mr T and thanks for the sound advice. I'm already well on the way with the planking using the bamboo from issues 16 and 17 (and thoroughly enjoying it). Switching to another material for the first planking, does seem like the best way, cost wise, and I`m now considering it. I'll give The Model Shop in Crossgates a ring tomorrow, to see what they stock. (I keep forgetting about that shop!) Cheers Den Model boats built so far:-

I have been looking at the Italian Deagostini site and everything on the hull should be the same. Or it looks that way so far. Its okay for us modellers who have experience with planking etc, to get ahead of the magazine. But for somebody doing their first build, I would strongly advise them to only go as far as the magazine takes them. Model boats built so far:-
