Hi Alan, If you look at my build, page 3, you can see I have used black fishing line, really easy to use, and looks nice and sharp, I used it length ways and at the plank to plank joints. I just ran a little watered down Pva along the line to hold it in place, I also used it for treenailing.

Have got fishing line coming to me from my son with the intention of using that for treenailing..... may use it as you described.... Looks like I have a little experimenting to do..... Progress on the decking took a back seat tonight with the arrival of issue 16 at the newsagents... All parts checked and found to be good.... here they are... Gandale attached the following image(s):

Started by cutting all the parts free from the fret. Using a fine emery board cleaned off all the black ash from the gluing surfaces... once again there seamed to be more ash than usual.. Dry fitted the bracing pieces 46 to ensure a clean fit to the false keel and that the slot remained free to take the gallery.... When happy, glued in place and clamped until set... Moved onto the rib pieces, no 49 and again dry fitted to test... Glued in place ensuring they set square to the keel.... Before the glue set I fitted and glued the deck piece no 47, this allowed some movement to ensure everything was square and lined up... Clamped in place and left to set. Finally for this evening fitted and glued the gallery in place, ensured the gallery was square to deck piece 47 and of course level.... Again clampled in place and left to dry.... Gandale attached the following image(s):

Tomorrow will fit the rib support pieces no 48 and then move back onto working on the decking.... going to try a couple of test strakes with oils, namely light oak, dark oak and teak, one to see how best to apply the oils and secondly to see which one looks the best...... Also have managed to obtain some black card with a view to using it between the planks as caulking.... will post results soon.. Thanks for looking in.....  Regards Alan

Tonight I wanted to try and make some progress on the decking.. Took it nice and slow and am sure will get a little quicker with practice. First thing I did was to take a 4mm strip the length of the deck and pin it in place to give me my straight edge... Gave the strips a light sanding, layed the planks and caulk strips at the same time. Used PVA, watered down slightly and pinned the strips in place until set... To make the caulking strips I took some black card and cut strips about .4mm wide.... Gandale attached the following image(s):

Found it rather fiddly trying to place the card strip between the ends of the planks. To make it easier I glued a small piece of card strip to the end of a piece of spare deck strip, this stopped the card twisting... It did help.... Gandale attached the following image(s):

This is where I'm at just now, hopefully will get some more done over the weekend but have to start getting my butt into gear and put the final touches to our xmas celebrations.... Mo. 🎅. 🎄 ⚓ 🚣 Mo, I have a good eye...  ....(The other one is rubbish though).. It is approximate but the nice thing is when the card is in place and glued it can be sanded down to the level of the deck very easily.... Don't think I can use the card for treenailing though, will look to use your idea of fishing line for that one..... Regards Alan
