Here is a plank ending solution yo may not have tried. Use a bottle steriliser!! I kid you not we have one for our baby and effectively it is just a steamer, steam is great for softening wood and it is big enough for most strip lengths for planking. I just use a soldering iron to form the shape after that  “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”
