Not as much progress as I had hoped this weekend, other issues took priority however, still managed to get some more deck planking done. Little problem raised its head that will need to be rectified. When I gave a light sanding the card I used for the caulking ended up staining the wood.... Should turn out to be fine when I get round to staining...

Can't see much more being done till after xmas so to all, hope you have a wonderful time....

Regards

Alan

Nice work Alan. A little bit of deck staining adds to the authenticity, IMHO.ThumpUp

hi al.you don't know what you've taken on?the first thing to do is practice how it all fits together, the lathe and milling machine are about the best combination, but you will need to get further bits to get the best out of it,like a self locking drill chuck, longer flat bed,and the stronger motor, for the saw.but most of all practice the lathe, and get a set of proxxon chistles,I think that will do for now,and have fun.take a look at this link.http://forum.model-space.co.uk/default.aspx?g=search#0|5

Thanks for the info Karl, really appreciate it... You are right of course, I don't know what I have taken on but the beauty is I want to learn to use it to all it's capabilities. Have been doing some research on youtube, the forum and I like what I see... I know practice will be needed and I need to start somewhere.... Thanks again, your tips and advice are invaluable......BigGrin BigGrin

Thanks Admiral, I did quite a bit of research on this item before adding to my xmas wish list... would have bought one if I didn't get it as a gift... It is a tad pricey though at around £275 but if you are serious about model building then something like this would be of great benefit... It's amazing what you can do with with it..... www.unimat.at ... their website will give you some more info if you are interested....

Well, obviously very little work done on the old girl during the xmas festivities, do hope everyone here in the forum had a wonderful time. Managed to get a couple of hours done tonight so carried on with some of the decking. The deck is going to clean up nicely...

Am hoping to complete as much of the decking as I can by the end of the weekend, will have to wait until the dummy gun supports are in place before completing the whole deck. Once I have done what I can, I can then start work on finishing the hull fairing prior to ....... dare I say it.... the planking.....BigGrin

Have also ordered additional decking materials for the upper decks as from what I have seen so far none of the decks are planked, they are all penciled in to give the effect. Actually planking the upper decks may lead to problems with the height of the gun barrels in the gun ports but will have to wait and see when we get closer to that stage.. .....Mellow Mellow

Thanks for looking in.....Blink
