In 1889 Victory was fitted out as the Naval School of Telegraphy, so in that sense she was a training ship and therefore possibly explaining the training ship reference on the first picture. The school was moved off Victory in 1904.

Have you seen the new post by 'Paul', it shows Victory as she was in 1922 when first installed in No 2 dock. Victory Now and thenIf you compare her with the first photo in this post, I think there are close similarities Have we answered Willz question yet? Mike T

Yes mike I think its been answered, but in the obviously genuine photo posted by Paul (nice find by the way Paul) it shows shoulder high bulwarks all the way round, and none of this as far as I can find is mentioned in any of her refits. Just a gun port at middle 7 from the rear, no grand ladder steps up her side. (nothing derogerty intended by these remarks mike) I am finding this all fascinating yet puzzling.
