The first flight was on the 4th or 5th of June 1783 with no passengers. The second flight was on the 19th of September the same year with a sheep, a duck and a chicken as passengers. Regards, Bernd

LMAO @ Robin.. You were close but not quite there, and a Happy New Year to you too. Now Bob, you were spot on, and I would love to know how you got that The reason I picked that particular aircraft, is because my late father used to be involved in their manufacture in the early 60's Model boats built so far:-

Easy,I was given an excellent book for my 13th birthday way back in 197coughcough which I still have & it shows the Lightning cockpit in all its glory! I was a British designed spacecraft in the 80's but never flew. It is rumored that I will be reincarnated with new engines & a new name. Unlike my American counterpart I didn't need a huge rocket pack to take off. What am I? Acronym & full name please...& bonus points if you can tell me the new name as well. Would it be that funny looking plane which appeared at the end of the Rocketeer film? That was (a replica) of the Gee Bee Model R (or also R1) Super Sportster with a Pratt and Whitney Wasp engine, 9 cylinder air cooled radial with 800hp and a 'cc' of 1,344 cubic inches. Basically a big radial engine with wings attached!
