hi everyone and a happy new year
does anyone know the weight of the finished sovereign? as im assuming most of it will be above the water line so it will be top heavy, and i was thinking of adding some balast before planking.
any feedback would be appreciated

hi jethro, your NOT thinking of putting the sots in WATER???????with the amount of decoration, and canons it is going to be HEAVY,you would need a yacht's type keel to keep her upright, and quite honestly there is no way my painted decorated and hopefully beautiful model will EVER see water, and also mine has not been glued with waterproof glue. the lower deck canons ports will work like a sieve anyway.
Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory

Hi Jethro, I thought the same as well with the weight and being top heavy.
The old wooden floors in my house are terrible, and I didnt want my Sovereign toppling over by accident.
So instead of balsa infills, I used Jenga (yeah have a laugh!) and ready mixed filler.
Its added about 5 or 6 kg to the weight of the hull, and that thing wouldnt shift in a major earthquake! LOL
Model boats built so far:-

Billings Cutty Sark
Scratch built twin IC RC Vosper MTB.
Scratch built rc electric hybrid.
Scratch built rc IC hydrofoil (ran happily on snow as well as water!)
Plus numerous numerous RC planes.

Under construction
Sovereign of the Seas!
1200:1 HMS Victory (by Mantua)
The Battleship Yamato (seriously considering building as an RC model)

I'm using something similar. Stack and Fall, a game I found in Dobbies. The other added advantage is that they are machined blocks so were useful when added against the frames and false keel. Kept everything at right angles.
