Hi everyone, HNY. BigGrin Has anyone had any difficulty pinning the planks ? One of two things are happening with me, either the pin won't go through the rib support or the bamboo plank splits. I have seen he discussion on switching from the supplied bamboo to Lime, is this reason ? i.e. bamboo splits easily.

What I did was drill a 0.5mm pilot hole for each pin.
Its a bit tedious, but it stops the planks splitting.
Model boats built so far:-

Billings Cutty Sark
Scratch built twin IC RC Vosper MTB.
Scratch built rc electric hybrid.
Scratch built rc IC hydrofoil (ran happily on snow as well as water!)
Plus numerous numerous RC planes.

Under construction
Sovereign of the Seas!
1200:1 HMS Victory (by Mantua)
The Battleship Yamato (seriously considering building as an RC model)

Hi Mike,
I used a 0.3mm drill bit in a hand drill, I found that this method works well as it hold the pins straight while you push them in, just remember not to push them all the way in, you won't be able to get them out again.
Hope this helps, good luck. Andy. BigGrin

i agree with the above, i use a drill and i've only split one plank, though the nails i use are a bit smaller than the ones provided.

Have to admit, I pre-drill using .5mm drill, very few planks have split as a result.... It would be my recomentation....

Hi, i'm new on this but i've found that holding the planks in a pair of pliers and then gentley pushing and twisting one of those pins used on notice boards until the point just comes through gives a large enough hole to stop the strips splitting but still allows the nail to grip the Bamboo, and this is much quicker than drilling holes.
