thank you gents for the kind comments,and a little explaining is needed I think,first of all,apologies for the bad pics,I've drop my camera and is broke,so the I-pad had to step in. the pencil lines you can see are where I have tapered and beveled the planks,not sure yet where to terminate the ll.e.ds.but hope to have contacts on the keel which will work from the stand.       that's the lower hull planked,and now for the big sand off,of all the jobs in building a ship,this has got to be the messiest,s.w.m.b.o. ALWAYS moans about the saw dust gets everywhere.  Hi Karl she's coming along nicely I follow ALL your build diaries and i have been meaning to ask you "why with this project did you decided to balsa the full length?" as in previous builds you have not bothered and just relied on your knowledge and expertise and on other occassions you have just done the bow and stern and they have all turned out nicely Cheers

hi bodge m8,I would like to know that my self,I just thought I would try it to see what all the fuss is about,won't be doing it again though,waste of good money,with a little care it is not needed and can cause problems if done too soon,you do need the deck to be in place for it to not cause problems.to be fair,it does help when your planking the bow,it gives a little more surface to stick on, btw love your tanker,and that plank cutter is something else,wanna know why I didn't get a free paintbrush with mine. Hi Karl, The hull is looking good, I`m only a little way into planking and have found the full balsa infill very helpful as a newbie, but I don`t know how difficult it would be without it, so maybe a bit biased . When you sand the hull, which method do you use, I am looking to get some ideas before I get to that point and would be grateful for your input. hi benny and del,my method of sanding is in the prep work,I dont like using filler,so I fill any gaps with slivers of wood,then I use a permagrit sanding block,rough one side and fine 'tother,they are expensive but lasts and lasts.I start with rough and remove excess bits of wood filla,then I use the other side of the block which is supposed to be medium but is a little worn now,so it gives a fine sand,any tiny gaps(shrinkage)I use aliphatic glue sanded over,which the sawdust created mixes with the glue to do an invisible join. when the planking is completed I will use shellac sanding sealer,as many coats as it needs with wet and dry carborundum 1200 in between before paint/varnish. Looking good there Karl. Enjoyed your explanation of the balsa infill. I have also been in two minds to do the whole hull or just the stern and bow.Stern and bow win. Your method of filling the gaps also is a way I would like to go in future. Thank you and well done. Rgds, Hans
