Hi Alan. As the others have said, deepest respect for your Dad and all his comrades, I always love watching those "World at War" and other history programs on Yesterday and the programs on the far east war against the Japanese are always incredible to watch. They not only had to fight in probably the most brutal battles of the war but also had to survive the worst of nature as well! It makes my blood boil when the likes of footballers are called 'heroes' when these men still walk among us! Best Wishes Robin PS planking's coming on well! It makes me angry when our cousins the other side of the pond say that they fought in the pacific on their own when we had units like the Chindits as well as other more clandestine ones that lived & operated just miles from the Japanese,these were mainly made up of civilians that lived in Singapore who volunteered to sneak away before the surrender.They had to put up with the abuse from others for not "Joining Up" & do their training in secret & then lived hand to mouth,many of them on their own plantations which had been taken over by the Japanese. Hi Robin, thanks for your very nice comments.... Nothing really makes my blood boil anymore, each to their own. We live in a different era but the one thing I do know, very few footballers etc are remembered in history but as time goes on it does show that the guys who suffered in those awful conditions will go down in history as being heroic..... There are many who played their part in that campaign and the vast majority receiving very little credit for their efforts...... All the history programs, documents and articles from that period tell the story most graphically, so the truth is out there for all to see regardless of the opinions of those with closed minds...... Anyways, back to the build... today I finished the planking up to issue 21 with the exception on one strake at the stern, that will be added tomorrow... Really pleased with how she is coming on.... Also managed to finish off the stern, all ready for the sanding phase... Gandale attached the following image(s):

Tomorrow hopefully put that final strake on and then get some work done on the launch and all its bits and pieces..... Feel I have caught up a little....

Finally managed to start some work on the Ships launch.... Masked off the outside of the hull as described in the mag.... took as much care as I could with this task as I wanted to avoid the possibility of paint leaching behind the tape..... Worked well and have very very minor touch up to do at the bow..... Can't really see it with the naked eye but the camera as usual picks up the flaws.... All in all, am quite happy with the results.... Gandale attached the following image(s):

Moved onto building the duckboards (think that is what you call them) . On looking at the build instructions I didn't like the idea of building in situ so decided to build and paint outside the launch and fit when complete..... I first cut four 56mm, two 48mm and one 38mm strips from the 1 x 3mm strips provided in earlier issues. The 38mm strip was cut in half lengthways.. Gently fine sanded each strip and placed them alongside each other, ensuring a good fit... Marked off to apply four bracing strips to go underneath and to sit in between the ribs of the launch.... Glued the edges of the strips together using PVA and also fitted the bracing pieces for the underside.... Placed the completed piece between two glass sheets and weighted down to ensure whole piece finished flat... Gandale attached the following image(s):

Finally shaped the edges and gave everything a very fine sand down. Dry fitted to the launch and have to say am happy with it so far.... Next stage is to give it a coat of paint, this of course means making a decision on whether I go for white as per the official build or go for a stained walnut look..... WTG Like the idea of making up the ship`s boat boarding outside of the build and then fitting. I followed the official build an found it difficult to get it properly centered, so may remove and redo. By the way, i have just started a practice planking on the second deck. I am following your excellent tutorial with the black card inserts but have devised a tree nailing process that does away with fishing line as used in some builds,tried it but to difficult with pork sausage fingers  .
