I followed the official build an found it difficult to get it properly centered, so may remove and redo. By the way, i have just started a practice planking on the second deck. I am following your excellent tutorial with the black card inserts but have devised a tree nailing process that does away with fishing line as used in some builds, tried it but to difficult with pork sausage fingers . Will detail in my build in next couple of days hopefully. In the mean time keep the build and good ideas coming Regards Delboy271155 (Derek) Thanks for the encouraging comments Derek, appreciate it very much.... Look forward to seeing the results of your decking and of course you tree nailing process.... Regards Alan

Love your launch work Alan! Nice and clean construction. Even I didn't like the idea of scratch building the things in 1/100 scale so I bought a selection of different sized Amati "Lifeboats" (launches in other words!) the main body is in white metal with supplied strips of good quality wood for the interior details. Will make a nice little mini projects as a break from the big girl herself! Well done again! Somehow, I have the crazy tendancy to want to build the launches from scratch, fiddly in places, yes, but the sense of satisfaction I get knowing it has all been put together by me and with care is where I get the most enjoyment..... Nice to know though there is the fallback of MWG's launch kits and of course Amati.... Looking forward to seeing more of your work... Regards Alan

Kolinsky Sable brushes are the best you can buy and although horribly expensive for larger brushes that artists use, they are reasonably priced for small brushes 2/0, 3/0 etc. they hold paint and release it very precisely. Plus they last for ever if you take care of them. For larger brushes and for washes and dry brushing I use Citadel brushes. For very fine detail I use a 6/0 brush.

Thanks for the info Andy, I use Admiralty brushes by Caldercraft, I like them very much but still wanted a couple of real good quality detail brushes for doing the real intriquet work such as the black banding around the buckets.... that bit I am having a problem with but will get there in the end... Thanks again.. Regards Alan

Hi there Alan! Court is correct about the sable brushes, I used to use them many years ago at art college, I've actually got a 4" sable brush which I inherited from a relative, it's as soft as anything but I've never used it with paint however, I just use it for dusting my finished models!! My current paintbrushes are a mixture of cheapies mainly Humbrol for larger areas (No4), quite a soft brush but not true sable. For the detailed work I am currently using a range of German "Premier" brand "Finest Nylon", a No1 and, for the smallest details, it's either a 0 or a 00 (it's worn off the handle!) All of these are fine pointed at the tips. I bought mine from my local model shop in Plymouth (part of the Antics chain). Nowhere near as pricey as sable but good value for the quality The only other 'main' brush I am using on the Victory is a Rowney No5 Flat brush, again in nylon for dry brushing the various details. The main thing with these brushes is not to mix the medium (paint). If you are painting in both acrylic and enamel or other spirit base get a set of brushes for each. I found that nothing ruins the brush tips more than cleaning them in water one time and white spirit etc the next. A good set will last many years as Court said, but only if looked after! Happy hunting! Not very keen on enamel paints, much prefer acrylic.... am quite happy with the brushes I have but it is the real fine detail where I find the brushes a problem.... am now looking for sable brushes, size 0, 2/0, 3/0, 5/0 and 6/0.... Also have an airbrush on order which hopefully will arrive tomorrow.... Thanks again for your assistance.... Regards Alan

Did some work on the launch accessories and fitted the duck boards in place.. decided to add a little detail to the oars and bucket, oars by painting the handles white and adding a walnut brown tip. Also, wasn't too keen on the handle provided for the bucket, think during that period the handles on buckets would be made of rope, so fitted rope instead.... All in all, don't think the pieces turned out too bad.... Tomorrow, will be getting the blackener out and using that on the launch mesh..... Gandale attached the following image(s):

You seem to be doing fine without the Kolinsky.
