Mike Very helpful and informative - much appreciate your time to share this info. Have learnt 2 new things as a result of your build: 1: have a better understanding of how to do the garboard planks (read loads of info on this and totally confused - your pictures are worth a thousand words) 2: learnt to soak, shape and dry before glueing. Using lime for my build and soaked all the stern gallery planks and fitted them. Well pleased until they dried overnight shrinking back and leaving gaps. Also found this shrinking weakened the glue joints. Anyhow re-done and happy now. Again appreciate all your time updating this as I am sure it takes a lot of effort to keep a diary going. Kind regards Tony Happy Modelling

Mike Good evening to you. See you are holding off on further issues to see the result they may have on your mods. Not sure if the following link may be of interest - its from the Italian web site and as they are a lot further ahead you can get a glance of what's to come. Seems they are scanning the build instructions week by week. Cannot understand a word but the pictures are informative. If our build follows the same route we get figures yippee - just a bit worried by the fact that one of them looks like captain Birdseye http://www.deagostinipas...osts/list/50/26899.page
Hope this might be of interest Kind regards Tony Happy Modelling

REAR DUMMY GUN POSITION Hi Team as you all know I have used a great deal of balsa infills, this allows me to do modifications easily, to interpret what I want to achieve in my build. I am really enjoying this build, and because there are no surviving plans available for this ship, there is no right or wrong, of how this ship should be, particularly below the water line, and so I am building this ship to my interpretation, I DO STRESS NOVICE BUILDERS SHOULD FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE MAGAZINE, AND MR T`s OFFICIAL BUILD DIARY. I have so far Modified the stern Hull, to how I wish my build to be represented. The next Modification I want to incorporate is rear dummy guns, it looks like the rear gun covers are closed on the model (It is not totaly clear on this point) however what is clear is that on my model I want my Gun Ports open with Dummy guns in situe, (and as I have filled the stern with balsa infills I will also be able to fit 4 dummy guns in the stern, but more about that in future posts) The first thing I did was to mark the gun ports (port and Starboard) and cut them out of the balsa with a scalpel:- MWG attached the following image(s): MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

REAR DUMMY GUN POSITION Then using the off cuts from the dummy gun support beams, I placed a piece in the rear of the new gun port in line with the support beams previously fitted, then I lined the gun port with more pices of the same timber:- MWG attached the following image(s): MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

REAR DUMMY GUN POSITION All I had to do then was sand the edges flush and paint the inside of the new Gun port black, oh! and of course do the other side of the ship Thats all for this time I hope you have found the build interesting,Questions and comments are very welcome. I will leave you with photos of the finished Dummy Gun Port, Kind regards Mike MWG attached the following image(s): MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

Hi Mike, I am in awe of the mods as a newbie, but for my SOTS build will be sticking to the official game plan, until the skills are more finely tuned, but one thing does concern me, not with your build but the official one. You have thinned the false keel to 1mm at the stern if I`m not mistaken?. That being so, when the final keel strips are fitted along the centre line will that not cause a step in the hull shape on the official build if we don`t do the same. I hope that makes sense, if not I`ll try and get some sort of diagram together. In the mean time, I have just in the last two weeks started the Victory, I PM`d you with a request for the list of enhancements a few days ago but understand you`ve had some broadband prob`s, could you let me know if you received it if not will resend. Keep up the brilliant tutorials I for one love em, even if I`m not that far advanced. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"
