Issue 21 - Contians bamboo & sapele wooden planking strips and pin-nails.

Continuing the hull planking - Lay three more rows of planking, this time on the underside of the hull, taper and fit the planks as shown in the steps, not forgetting to ga space the planks as shown at the stern.
The only change I found was row three. The steps say to lay a plank from the bow to frame 15, the distance in reality is longer then the suppplied planks. I laid bow to frame 7, then 7 to 16, and 16 to the end of the stern.

Fitting out of the ships boat - Carefully cut the bow and stern gratings to fit the boat bottom as shown. I used a brass blackening fluid so as to avoid clogging up the grid holes with paint.

Glue the gratings in place then set the boat aside for further assembly in Issue 25.

That's it for this stage, carefully store the remaining bamboo planking and sapele strips.

Future issues:

Issue 22 - Contains two gun kits and blocks.

Issue 23 - Contians bamboo & sapele wooden planking strips and pin-nails.

Issue 24 - Contains bamboo & sapele wooden planking strips and pin-nails.

Issue 25 - Contains bamboo & sapele wooden planking strips and pin-nails.

Issue 23 - Contains bamboo & sapele wooden planking strips and pin-nails.

Continue to lay the hull planking on both sides of the hull as shown in the magazine steps.

Lay one row on the under side and two rows on the upper side, taking note of where the bow and stern planks are tapered.

Cut and shape infil pieces from planking off-cuts to fill the remaining angled gaps between the planking at the stern on both sides of the hull.

That's it for this stage, carefully store the remaining bamboo planking and sapele strips.

Issue 24 - Contains bamboo & sapele wooden planking strips and pin-nails.

Continue the hull planking to lay another three rows of planking along the bottom of the hull. Taper the bow planks as shown in the steps.

Make the stern reinforcement strip by measuring and cutting a plank across one half of the stern, cut a second plank the same length and glue both pieces together, allow the glue to fully dry before proceeding.

Shape the joined strip to make a triangular profile as shown in the steps, then glue it in place across the stern.
When the glue has fully dired further shape the strip to follow a smmoth planking flow across the frames onto the strip, use a plank laid acros the frames and onto the strip to test the plank flow.

Repeat the process to fit a reinforcing strip at the opposite side of the model.

That's it for this stage, carefully store the remaining bamboo planking and sapele strips.

Future issues:

Issue 25 - Contains bamboo & sapele wooden planking strips and pin-nails.

Issue 26 - Contains bamboo & basswood wooden planking strips and pin-nails.

Issue 25 - Contains bamboo & sapele wooden planking strips and pin-nails.

Continue the hull planking by adding another three rows to the hull bottom.

Taper and fit the planks at the bow.

Taper and fit two infil pieces at the stern as shown in the steps, then fit the planks to rest on the reinforcement strip fitted previously, leaving a slight overhang and tapered gap in the last row as shown.
Then cut and fit a tapered infil strip to fit the tapered gap.

Repeat on the opposite side of the hull.

In the next stage we will correct the shape of the rows of strips set at the centre of the hull, reducing the space to be filled and at the same time level them.

Take the ship's boat and the painted planks at issues 20 and 21 (from issue 13). Cut and shape four strips of plank to create the thwarts and fit as shown, inthe steps, not forgetting to file a 3mm semi-circle into the mast thwart before gluing it in place.

In the next stage we will continue to fit out the ship's boat.

That's it for this stage, carefully store the remaining bamboo planking and sapele strips.

Future issues:

Issue 26 - Contains bamboo & basswood wooden planking strips and pin-nails.

Issue 27 - Contains bamboo & basswood wooden planking strips and pin-nails.

Issue 28 - Contains bamboo & basswood wooden planking strips and pin-nails.
