The Turret looks good . I wasn't going to bother with it, but you've changed my mind and I've just ordered the Lifecolor Kriegsmarine paint set. PS I might be wrong, but isn't the Turret in Norway from the Gneisenau, not the Prinz Eugen.

Thank for all the comments - it is ok for a novalty item. None of the main guns in the kit have blast bags Tom my upgrades will however, not sure if they extend to the bonus gun. “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Planning the Hull.Total build time 0hrs 0mins
Ok so my first job on this build is to look at what needs to be done on the hull. The hull is a single piece barring a small section in the bow and the rudders and propeller shafts etc. As I am yet to come across a kit that could not be improved... there is some work to be done before we are ready to prime.
Beside the usual clean up of seams and some minor damage under the hull that needs filling, the first issue to address is the countersink, this is at its werese in the bow but also apears at several points along the length of the hull. It is only minor but it is going to be noticeable under paint so needs to be addressed, I have marked out the areas in Pencil.

Trumpeter have gone to the bother of marking out the hydrophones which is a nice detail seldom seen on other Bismarck kits. Some of these will need drilling out a little as the depths vary due to their location on the hull. The have not come out to clearly on the photo but you can just make out the 'U' shape of dots.

The scuttles at the bow have distorted a little., the best solution is to fill and re-drill i think. I plan to drill out all the scuttles anyway as I am going to line them with assertate to glaze them. The eyebrows have also distorted and really need to be sanded off and replaced with etch - so far i have not found any etch eyebrows in this scale, so if anybody knows a source i would greatly appreciate the lead - and if i replace the bow end i will have to do the stern also.

Moving to the stern then, there are a number of grab handle 'thingys' the would be nice to replace with etch or wire. I don't have my upgrade set yet but if there are non in that i will drill through the hull and thread copper wire through to make the handles.

There are a couple of modifications required at the stern. There should be a rolled lip at the dec level where the flag staff is this needs to be added, a simple task with some milliput also there should be two holes, outlets for the smoke generators in the area i have marked with a box. these will need drilling out and then some pipe fabricated (see research links above for details) I have yet to correctly identify the location of the bilge pump outlets but when I do i will drill these out to (again any help appreciated).

Finally the most important modification comes at the bow. The hole for the centre anchor is too low down. a new hole needs to be drilled through and the cast hole filled.

I will give exact measurements for all this as I do the work current markings are just approximations for now. I have to finish my Hood before i begin work in ernest on Bismarck so probably a couple of weeks, if temptation dose not get the better of me I will do a kit review of the upgrade set once I have it and post the link in Post one of this diary. any comments or tips at this point more than welcome
