Hi Jase, The Porthole Eyebrows are included in the MK1 Etch along with all the Portholes, along with all the minute Grab Handles.

Very nice start Jase.... will be watching to see how you progress with your modifications.... been some 45 years since i built a war ship, airfix bismark, pretty basic and cheap... saved my paper round money for that one..  ... From there I moved onto gliders and was chuffed when they actually flew... stopped modeling altogether when I reached 16... Think I have missed out on so much of this hobby through the years but at least back on it now and loving it..... Regards Alan

Boot top will be a challenge as it is not marked. i have a 1:350 tamiya kit though so plant to take measurements and scale up. I think after the hull should be relatively straight forward construction - famous last words. Are you going to put a build diary up? it would be good if we could get 2 or three going. Thanks Jase  I might do a Build Diary, but I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to plastic Battleships. I notice that there's a problem with the Boot Topping/Waterline level at the Stern. If you mark it at a constant level from the Base it looks too low and needs correcting upwards. I saw that you were asking about Smoke Generator Canister Hatches on the MK1 Decking, they are there as you can see on the Photo, but no Crew Access Hatch to the Smoke Room as on the Artwox Deck.

I would not worry just go for it on the build diary front you will probably inspire more people to have ago and get more help ant tips from the forum that way. Interesting comment on the boot topping. The shape of the bow dictates that the line plunges under the bow also the depth of the line increses. Hi Jase, I am going to try & start my Bismarck in the next couple of weeks, looking at your posts so far, you are much more knowledgeable than I am about battleships. I don't understand the 'boot topping question' could you explain it in 'idiots' terms please. Thanks Wilfy

I think this is right but not completely sure, The boot topping is a measure of draft that indicates to the crew its weight or where the red anti fowling paint meets the grey paint of the upper hull. So if a ship is riding high or light the red paint line can be seen, the more weight on the ship then it becomes lower in the water so a ship that is riding exactly to the boot topping line is at its optimum weight with a full crew and stores on board. Different ships have this line set at the design stage, thus a container ships can have a higher boot topping compared to a warship regards Andy  Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

On Bismarck the Boot Top was 2 meter deep on her sister ship Tirpitz it was slightly deeper.“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”

Thanks for info, think I understand the principle.
So the 'boot topping line' is the demarcation line between the red paint & the grey paint on the model. This is 47.5mm from the keel at centre, 42.5 mm at the bow & 44.5mm at the stern. So if I was to draw a line mating up these points I would have have the position to mask & paint the lower hull?

Wilfy Yes that would give you the top line the bottom line should 10mm bellow. Great Wilfy i am probably a couple of weeks from getting properly stuck in also - I just need to get Hood of my desk and finally receive my upgrade kit. Looks like we could have 3 Bismarck Builds which will be fantastic as they will all come out different I am going to do my Bismarck with yellow turret tops, just to be controversial J[/quote] I was going to start an aircraft kit next, but think it would be great if the three of use could work through the Bismarck together, I will have to take advice from yourself & Court Orchard as my knowledge of her is not great.
