moving on to the the paintwork, yes this the order that caldercraft want you to do it,to get the stripes on before the bits and bobs go on,then the plating.I have only put one coat on with a brush,so if I knock it about,I can add other coats. build log time now 190 hours. Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/

Hi Karl, Looking very good, I think painting the hull at this stage makes a lot of sense where you have nice clean lines to mask off, then paint the other details before they go on. Im going to do the same to mine as soon as ive cut the quarter deck gun ports. I think someone once built one of these jotika vics in 1000 hours, you're not going for the record are you ?

yes hans,it sure will, having a break from tiles,I've started the exitway stairs, these had to be fitted with stanchions,so it's now my chance to try e-bays" BLACK IT". it really does do what it says on the tin,the etch stanchions were black in about 3 minutes straight out the packet.so I installed grates, stairs, black thread for the hand rails.really impressed with the black it, recommend it for blackening brass and metal work. total build hours:- 200 hrs. Hi Karl Looking like a very nice build you have going there. And what a great idea to paint the stripes before adding all of the other fittings. Could I ask please as you are using that Blacken-it product does it rub off easily? I have been using Carrs Metal Black for Brass which works great but has the tendancy to leave like a surface soot which comes off on your fingers - not sure if this applies to all of these sorts of product? Looking forward to watching how your build progresses. Kind regards Tony Happy Modelling

hi alan, thanks for the nice comments, the blacken it solution I have only used on the etch parts, their does appear to be a rough surface after using black it,but not noticed any residue, not tried it yet on the larger brass parts, will let you know on that one. k. Hi Karl, if your shipyard gets any bigger you may have to think of employing a pilot and harbour master.... .. Think you need a display room for that little lot..... Regards Alan
