Hi everyone, a little update:
First i gave the hull below the waterline two coats of copper-paint, so that later little gaps between the tiles would not be obvious. The waterline was taped and the above hull painted black.DaDokta attached the following image(s): Greetings, Walter

Hi Walter great start on the coppering, just a word of warning on the last file on the how to copper tile the hull part 5,6,7 it says run a row of tiles along the water line I think this is wrong just run them naturally to the water line it will look 10 times better.I don't know why they say do that because it is a waste of time and effect especially around the stern area doing it the natural way is exactly the same but without the line off tiles. Another tip is when cutting the tiles with a craft knife do it on a hard surface not the cutting mat I found out then tend to bend on the mat and hard to cut very small pieces I went through a lot of blades too.looking Forward to your progress Ben.

Thanks Jase and Alan!
Thanks for your warnings, Ben. I won`t be doing the line along the water-line - i have McGowans book with the coppering-plan and will try to follow that plan as far as possible. I think they do that water-line because maybe its easier to achieve a clear straight line that way.
The cutting of the tiles really is the hardest part of the job. A hard surface is very important.
One other piece of advice for those who didn`t start the tiling yet:
When cutting the tiles you should try and cut the whole lenght of the tile at once. With the first few tiles i always cutted half of the lenght and then the other half. This led to a strong deformation of the tiles. (i hope my english is understandable )

I found good sharp scissors was the most efficient way of cutting tiles, they do curl a bit but you simply flatten them out again - easy. if you want to ensure a straight line and not use the tiles to achieve it try nailing a baton across the line so you can but your tiles up to it - remove the baton when done. “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Thanks jase,
i haven`t tried scissors till now - didn`t even think of it!! Embarassing! I will try it as soon as i get home - will make the cutting a lot easier.
Also the idea with the baton is some good advice! I´m learning new tricks through this forum every day.
Thank you again, WalterGreetings, Walter

Hi Walter I fortunately didn't have your problems with the copper tiles - mine were made from the self adhesive copper anti-slug tape which was far easier to stick in place and to add the nail heads on to as well! I think with all part-works that are advertised as 'suitable for beginners' there are many short cuts which are added in to make the tasks easier for anyone with no previous knowledge of period ship building, the water line of tiles is one such example, they didn't go like that in real life but it might seem easier for a complete beginner! I use the McGowan book too, I thinks it's probably the best source of drawings and plans for the Victory available, especially the masts and rigging sections. I was really lucky with my copy, I found it in a little corner bookshop in Paignton, only copy there and reduced from £40 to £9.99! An absolute bargain!! Best of luck with your tiles Robin First wooden ship: The Grimsby 12 Gun 'Frigate' by Constructo Second: Bounty DelPrado Part Works Third: HMS Victory DelPrado Part Works 1/100 scale Diorama of the Battle of the Brandywine from the American Revolutionary War Diorama of the Battle of New Falkland (unfinished sci-fi), Great War Centenary Diorama of the Messines Ridge Assault Index for the Victory diary is on page 1

Hi guys,
here`s a little easter update of my tiling so far. It`s really time consuming and applying the stealers at the stern is really a pain in the ass. But when you look at the result, it`s worth the effort. It´s such an upgrade for the ship!Happy Easter to all of you! Greetings, WalterDaDokta attached the following image(s): Greetings, Walter
