Hi All Time for a bit of an update! Firstly for those eagle eyed amongst you, after a little battle to seperate the parts I have reassembled the ships anchor stock in the correct orientation.Pic 1 Having that back on track I continued with the bow formers, which will be balsa infilled in the near future. I will be doing the infills before I fit the bow to the false keel,as I found it awkward on the Soveriegn to work with the whole hull, that and the fact that the bow end of the false keel has been in need of a soak and flat clamping session,(nearly there now). So bow formers,Pic 2+3 Time for that to fully set before the infills. Next I decided to make a start on the carronade. Well, that`s where the discussions started as to the correct position of the wheels.Having looked at several photo`s and a great drawing supplied in the discussion I decided to position the wheels slightly in from the back edge of the base, with the rear eyelets behind the wheels, not in front. That decision made, I started to assemble the base, only to find another problem. With the rear wheel assembly made, I had a dry fit of the base and soon realised that the front mounting block needed to be twice the thickness supplied or the whole issue sloped down towards the front. This is the state of play at the moment.Pic 4 While that was in the process of drying, I turned my attention to the ship`s boat, being careful to get the frames square and I have this morning started to plank.Pic 5+6 Well that`s all for now,as usual comments and critics welcome Regards delboy271155 (Derek) delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Hi All, Mini update, as back giving me grief and pain so can`t sit for too long in one position. Following up on the bow formers, I have done the balsa infills and got it back to the basic shape prior to fairing at a much later date.Pic 1 After a two day pressing session on the bow section of the false keel, which has been a success, I checked on the ribs and as they were ok had a fitting session. I put these under a bit of pressure overnight while they set.Pic 2 I won`t be assembling the false keel/ribs for a while yet, I`m going to wait until I have all the keel parts and ribs and then have a serious building session. In the meantime I will be stripping down my Sots dry dock as it`s no longer needed and prepping it ready for the Victory. Next on the shopping list is some bigger and better brackets than those used on Sots, then when I`ve got all the keel parts it will be down to rebuilding the dry dock. hi del a little tip here mate, the joins of the ribs to the "b" sections, needs to re-inforced with a bit of planking,as the charred edges WILL NOT bond, test them out and see.also by adding the bits of plank,it stiffens them up against accidental breakage. Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/

Hi Karl , Thanks for the tip, I have very lightly cleaned the charred edges with a micro file and will be doing a full balsa infill build as I did with the Sots, so will the reinforcement still be needed? I would del,as the balsa does not go all the way up,and the skinny bits are exposed.I would just do the skinny bits, not the joint. Cheers Karl That makes sense, as I have recently had a breakage(which fixed ok) on my Sots build, may have to be a bit careful though cos gun ports sometimes get very close to the ribs. Hi All, As this is my number 2 build, just a small update while planking on the SOTS dries out. I have finished the planking on the Victory launch, which if I say so myself is better than my first attempt on the SOTS. As they say practice makes perfect, well maybe better . The pics are below, you judge . No, seriously though any advice good or bad will be gratefully appreciated. hi del, acouple of tips here might help, the planks I found a little wide,so I cut mine down with a pair of scissors down the middle, and then tapered them BOTH ends so I didn't need to use sharp points on any of the planks. then after sanding down I put an other layer of planks on in a different wood mahogany or walnut 3mm.x.06mm leaves a nice finish. Hi Derek, nicely done.... think your build is coming on a treat.... .. Once you sand the launch down it will look the part ready for painting, just be careful not to sand too much off as those planks a really thin.... I take it you are going to paint or do you intend to go for the natural finish?? Regards Alan

Hi All, Had enough of planking the SoTS, so it`s back to the Vic for a while. Now, it`s been said on here before that there are "no problems, only solutions". So to that end I`ll start with the problem. Bow Keel Section Serious twisting and warping of the part was the issue. I have been down the route of soaking/steaming then clamping/pressing but it just came back to the same awful shape. That left me with two possible solutions: 1: Order new part from Deag - Can take to long 2: Make a replacement part - If this had failed I`d be back to #1. The extent of the twist.Pic 1 The craft knife shows how far out of straight this part was. Making the replacement Some while back I bought some plywood off cuts at the Coalville Boat Show, you know the "some day this might be useful" well the day had arrived. First I marked round the old piece with it firmly clamped in place.Pic 2 I then cut out the edge where it joined the centre keel section (most difficult edge first)Pic 3 From there I rough shaped the keel shape and cut the top edges.Pic 4 The keel front edge was then shaped with the old and new pieces clamped together.Pic 5 After that the wider slots were cut out using my Dremel and a reamer bit, then finished with a mini file.Pic 6 Using the same tools with a finer reamer bit I then cut the thinner slots.Pic 7 Now it`s new part in and old part out.Pic 8 EUREKA !!!! Next update soon - Keel/Ribs and first deck assembly Regards delboy271155 (Derek) delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"
