moriarty wrote:You are learning Mo, thats the exact same way as I have always done them. Practicaly foolproof as long as you dont overdo the tension. I am happy enough with them, but as I tension the shrouds I feel the thread on the bottom shroud is being pulled up, I am also trying to put a bit of tension on the shrouds to pull the mast over a bit,

I am now tying the threads to the second section of the main mast, My mast is leaning over slightly, so I am rigging out one side with the hope of pulling the mast over, There is not a lot in it, I put a plumb line on the the main mast from top to bottom to check it trueness. The only thing being the point at the top is virtually floating, But a plumb line is a plumb line, and its a good guide. I have also put a plumb line on the wall at the back of the ship, to line the mast through with the eye. I am going to finish one side, inc the ratlines, and this should help rectify the trueness of the mast, But as I say there was probabally only 10mm in it from top to bottom, I would only need to knock the hull 1mm of the level to make the masts plumb. Can't believe how long it's taken to tie all the ratlines to the main mast, anyway all three sections done, I made 2 half hitches to each knot, thats a total of 2304 half hitches, The model is so tall, I had to stand to get the second and third lifts done, I found that back breaking, Anyway all done now, next is to do the foremast, May be moving house shortly, that will put a hold on the ship for a while.

great job on the rigging Mo, i know how you feel about time spent on this, i have just finished the lower section on the main mast on Victory, only 11 sections to go, boy does time slow down when doing this. Even with a Miniart diorama and 1/35 scale german halftarck as a distraction. current builds

Good job there MO. She beginning to look real grand. Well done. To assist with the rigging on the Vic, I hijacked a small coffee table (shhhh swambo doesn't know yet)so I did not have to stand. Just a thought. What a great build of the rigging you are doing, I can't wait to get to it on mine (not lol) all them knots will send me blind, showed one if my kids your build and told them that's what I have to do and the response I got was good luck . Keep up the great build. Builds in progress: HMS Victory.HMS Surprise. Completed builds: Revell London Bus 1/24. Builds to do:Sovereign of the seas, Hms Albion.

Beautiful clean build, the rigging is impressively neat. The endless knots I remember well, I found trying to do at least a few every night helped and time as it does passes, every knot tied is one less to do.
