Do you think we may be able to get any spare parts to replace any broken or accidentally damaged parts whilst attempting to glue or drill.

My number 12 broke but I stuck it together not to bad but I am having trouble drilling small holes in the brass strip for the cannonade. I really could do with another piece of metal.

i have a fear of losing a tiny bit.

thanks Shipmates for all your help

In the absence of a replacement brass strip (I didn't use the ones that came with my carronades, so if you need one, simply PM me with your details), otherwise, you might consider fashioning a suitable part out of styrene strip or, given your experience with wood, maybe some off-cuts.

As a last-ditch suggestion, (if you are feeling brave) you could even cut a metal bean/soup can up and use the metal from that.

Hi Pam

You could also go to to Cornwall Model Boats and order some replacement brass strip. It isn't very expensive and it would give you some stock for future use in the project.

As a printer or 25 years (litho) I used alluminium plates, these are think enougth to cut, shape et. f you haa lookthought yourlocal yellow pages for Litho printers and give them a call and ask for discarded plates, you may find them useful.

these are exmples of what can be done, all metal litho plates.

worth a go eh!

Nah, they can be cleaned with white spirits and/or water, you would also be using the reverse side of the plate. For the ammount you would be using it would be negligable.

One hint pamlupo....is build up a bits box....bits or sheets of balsa and lite-ply..bits of tin or brass..pins..even bits of thread (various thickness).not huge amounts...from art shops and hobby shops...and check out e-bay (cool for bargains).....because something somewhere will go wrong..(as many of the well experienced wood ship builders have said)..and you have your box of bric-or-brack....to help sort it out....hope this helpsBigGrin BigGrin

Thanks everyone
I have looked at Cornwall boat site and there are various brass strips. I do not know which one to buy, I have rang them and left a message -no reply- I have emailed them -no reply. I want to replace the brass strip for the cannonade which is 2.6 mm wide. When I looked at the strips `I couldn't see the same size. Can anyone help me please which strip I need.

Get the 0.5 X3 X 500mm strip it is as close as you are going to get it is a fraction wider and thicker but you will not notice it.

I agree with Macmedal in getting a thicker brass rod ....the wheels fit on more snug and stops them from bending in....but you will have to enlarge the holes in the carrage..(very carefully)i'm not sure what...0.5 x3 ...is ...i used 1.2 mm brass rod...2 pieces 300 mm long for 1.30 plus postage off e-bayBigGrin
