Hi to everyone. I'm having so much fun out of the MP4/23 build that when I saw this kit I couldn't resist. RM1 attached the following image(s):

I haven't got an air brush so I'm using the Tamiya TS cans. The metallic silver is quite pricey. I used a gloss black undercoat. RM1 attached the following image(s):

I'm glad to see someone else having a go at this kit. I did this kit not to long ago and there's a build diary on it up in the forum too. You've made a great start mate keep the pictures coming Sean CURRENT BUILDS

A little work done on the engine (that's the tiny thing infront of the MP4-23) It's interesting to compare 1/24th and 1/8th RM1 attached the following image(s):

Hello Malc,
Looking good mate, the decals are sitting down nicely on all those curves and some nice staining on the exhausts too, well done!!
Looks like a nice little kit Malc and a nice build!! Keep the updates coming, I'm watching with interest!!

I found a little more time to carry on with the rear suspension details. Quite fiddly...even hard to photograph RM1 attached the following image(s):

At last found some time to do a bit more. I managed to get some Microsol and set so I'm steadying my nerves to tackle the body decals. Here's a few pictures of the build so far. The cockpit detail was good fun. RM1 attached the following image(s):

I've been doing some very careful decal stuff. Had a bit of a disaster with the Bridgestone logo on the front wing ( got a bit carried away with the microsol!) So i've printed a couple of my own and will see if that works next week. RM1 attached the following image(s):

Coming along very nicely Malc and given the small scale you are doing a grand job with it. She is looking very good and I hope you can sort the decal problem?!
What happened with the Microsol? Did you try moving the decal whilst it was still soft?

Kev How did you guess.... I've been puting the decals on with microset and after dabbing off the excess going for a brush or two of microsol. The decal moved a bit and as I tried to move it back it crinkled, folded and just became a mess!! Luckily it was the first one of the pair so at least the symmetry will be maintained . I've got some crafty papers decal paper so we'll see how it goes. Malc.

Been there, done that a few times when I first started using those products Malc! I soon decided to use an old redundant or damaged model to practice my technique on until I better understood how to use the stuff and learnt what you could or couldn't do with it - practice makes perfect as they say!? Might be worth you doing the same Malc by using any old spare decals you have (doesn't matter what they are) and any old throwaway kit or a cheapy off ebay?
If I do get a slightly misplaced decal, what I immediately try to do is stop the Microsol's softening process by liberally dousing the decal with a soft brush loaded with clean water, leave it a minute, and then very carefully try to get the wet ends of the bristles under the edge of the decal and gradually work my way across to the other side using a back and forth motion until the whole decal is kind of 'aquaplaning' on a film of water? Makes it easier and a little less risky to try and move the decal, but you still need to take extreme care and it isn't always successful! When you have repositioned the decal you can just dab it dry with some soft tissue and reapply fresh Microsol/set? Some say the best way is to let it dry then reapply some Microsol until it softens again to the point where it is just moveable, but in my view softening the decal is the last thing you want to do if you're trying to move it! It's all part of learning and trial and error I'm afraid, but you will get better at it the more you do!
Hope that helps Malc?

Thanks for the advice, Kev. I printed a couple of new Bridgestone decals and am quite pleased with the results. Also started on the tyre markings. I'm now taking a little more time with each decal. Almost finished ! RM1 attached the following image(s):

Hi Malc, I like building 1:24 scale F1 cars, it's a good size for displaying.I must admit that your attention to detail is superb for a car that's around 20cm long.I'm just wondering how you painted the bodywork.Do you use an airbrush or a spray can? It looks fantastic.Well done.Stu.

Hi Malc, I guess i should have read about your build instead of just looking at the pics.I see now that you used spray cans for the body work.It looks great.Stu.

Hi Stu, thanks for the kind words. As you have seen I've used Tamiya spray paints, TS 83 for the metallic silver of the bodywork. I'm considering getting an airbrush setup for the future as I have a few models lined up to be made. Cheers Malc.
