PREPARING FOR PLANKING

This is the Job if done properly is most rewarding because it pays you dividends in the finished planking.

The first task is to fill the gaps between the deck and the bow rib, this will help you with forming the plank for the bow curve (every little helps.

Measure and cut two wedges:-

I'm very interested in your mod for the bowsprit, placing it starboard of the foremast. Lots of history behind that positioning. Thanks for the idea, although I am way off that point in the build due to joining in late.

PLANKING FROM THE GARDBOARD PLANKS

I have now fitted 4 planks each side of the Gardboard planks (with the gardboard planks 5each side) plus I have fitted all the planks including droppers on the stern keel.

I have soaked the planks where I need curvature, and then fitted them to the ship (without adhesive)to dry in situ, then I cut and fitted.

The planks in the photos when they are dark, are wet, and then you will see when I have fitted them, I hope the photos tell the story:-

FITTING THE PLANKS FROM THE GARDBOARD

As the planks will have a second plank on them I have not been as critical as if this had been the only planking.

This is how the ship looks now, the gap down the keel is 4mm and I have test fitted the Stem and keel parts.

Thank you for looking inBigGrin Kind regards Mike

PS I am not using Bamboo planks, I have favoured Lime Wood

Also I have modified my rear stern that is why the plank curls over the stern.

Hi MikeBigGrin ,
It`s delboy the inquisitive one LOL .Looking at your post #581 I see you are broadening the bow end of the second false deck and I can see why, but i have planked without the additional fillets and I also have a small gap the whole way down port and starboard sides of the second false deck to the row of planks next to them, so my question is, are you fairing your ribs back to the shape of the second false deck from bow to stern?
Hope that question makes sense, it does to me but I know what I`m trying to get overLOL .
