So I have been studying the Eduard PDF's for their new PE Issues and it seems there's an lot more that I don't already have. For example, for the 7 main Searchlights, Trumpeter give us 6 Plastic parts 2 of them clear for some odd reason and a PE for the lens grating. MK1 replace the Grating with a much finer one and add the side winding handle. Eduard of course have the 2 MK1 pieces, but add another 13 PE details to each Searchlight, 4 Grab Handles, 4 Lifting Hitches, the Winding Handle at the rear, a Hatch, 2 pieces for the Pivot Attachment and what looks like some sort of Key. I have decided to start working on the smaller sub-assemblies. The Hull is too large to spray indoors,so that will have to wait for more clement weather. I have started with the 7 Main 160cm Searchlights. As I said earlier the MK1 Kit provides 2 pieces of PE and one of the reasons was to help me decide on the Eduard PE and you can probably guess my decision I have shown the Lens Grating PE from MK1 alongside the Trumpeter, they are in different leagues with the Mk1 showing a nice 3D on the louvering and frame (it's on the left in case you can't tell ).

 Hi Andy The one on the left is far superior to the trumpeter and I guess you will be going for the Eduard set aswell regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

I guess the kit parts that are clear are to avoid you having to glue lenses in and possibly fogging the lens?? “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”

That's a good point Jase, but it still makes no sense to have the bolted back plate clear  . Also with the PE any fogging would not be visible

Hi Alan I think I read somewhere that they sometimes make items such as searchlights or head lights out of clear plastic because after painting the outside the clear inside gives a perception of depth like looking into the real thing. The way this is done is to paint the back plate part silver and the sides white on the outside then coat this in grey this can give the depth of perspective, but as you say with the covers this is made a little redundant. regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

I was thinking of doing a time log on this huge build, like Karl on his Caldercraft Victory, but because of my work commitments, I tend to work in odd bursts of unscheduled time and this would be difficult to monitor realistically. So instead for a bit of fun, I'm going to do a Part Count, and also I'm quite taken by the idea of adding as many parts as possible to the already huge part list. So at the moment with some basic Hull work and the 7 Main Searchlights, plus some preliminary work on the Funnel, I have a part count of 134. This will increase to 225 with the additional Eduard Main Searchlight parts.

I have orderd parts from the German supplier also shipped today took 3 weeks from order to shipping. Doors (i want to model some open), emergancy hatches, propella protection kit and one of the very bice brass display name plates still not decided if i am going with walk ways or not for the Catapult. Also WEM are about to start releasing - just like Eduard they are doing small upgrade packs but my guess iss when they are all brought to market they will do all in ones like a big ed  “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”

I've been trying to research the use of Sacrificial Anodes on the Bismarck, clearly they are on the Rudders and the Propeller Support Arms. But, I've come across an obscure reference to there being some on the Hull, near the deflectors . Also, on the Imperial War Museum Picture of the Tirpitz Rudder and Prop Shafts, after she turned Turtle, there are clearly Anodes on both sides of both Arms, but it looks like only 2. Therefore I am going to do the same on the Bismarck, as it reasonable to assume the arrangement would be similar, albeit 3. Therefore Opferanoden now on order from Germany.
