Stage 47 - Contains a wingframe, aileron traliing & leading edges, aileron ribs and screws. Starboard wing tip assembly - This assembly is identical to that of the port wing a tip assembly already completed, therfore no need to repeat the process here. Fitting the starboard wingframe - This assembly is identical to the fitting of the port wingframe in the previous stage, therefore no need to repeat the step process here. Port wing aileron assembly - This is quite a fiddly process which needs great care and patience. Start by make a note of the aileron rib numbers as they will be used when assembling the aileron, and only remove each rib as required to avoid geting them mixed up. If you are painting the ailern then you will need to follow the painting steps in conjunction with the assembly. Take ribs #1 and #16 and the leading edge frame, test-fit rib #1 at the wider end of the leading edge, engaging the rib as shown in the steps. Once you are happy with the fit, apply suerglue to the inside of the leading edge to secure the rib in place. Then repeat for the narrow end with rib #16. Test-fit ribs 3, 9 and 15 in their corresponding notches, levering them into place as shown in the steps, then glue each into place. Take the aileron trailing edge and identify the rib position numbers. Holding the leading edge as shown in the steps, glue the trailing edge in place, engaging it with ribs 1, 3, 9 and 15 and at the angle shown in the inset image. Once the glue has dried, glue the remaining ribs into place as per the rib position numbers. Fitting the port wing aileron - Position the assembled aileron and left wing, as shown, and locate the three hinge points. If you find that the angles of the hinges do not quite match those of the slots, then bend them slightly, as shown in the step photo, until they do match. You will need to move each of the three hinge pins to one side so that each matches the slot in the the front of the aileron leading edge as shown in the steps. Suspend the wing above the surface you are working on. Test-fit the aileron onto the wing by sliding the hinges into the slots, making sure that the two points on each of the hinges, enter the slot first. You may find it easier to angle the hinges upwards slightly. If you are still having trouble fitting the aileron, try adjusting the slot or the lengths of rod with fine wet and dry paper. Once your aileron is in place, apply glue to the hinges at the points indicated, inside the leading edge. You might want to leave the gluing of the aileron in place until the skinning process can be seen at the next stage. That's it for this week. Stage 48 - Contains the aileron and tail fin skin sheets, radio and aileron castings. Remove any burrs from the castings, then paint the radio control unit as shown and the aileron actuator and counter balance in your chosen exterior finish. Glue the radio control panel into the cockpit as shown. At this stage you need to decide if you are going to add an exterior skin to your model. Lightly mark A/B on the yellow side of the left wing aileron skins as shown, then carefully them out. The aileron skins are self adhesive which should be painted in your chosen finish on the white side of the skin (yellow side is the backing), I opted for Tamiya AS-29 IJN grey green. You will also need to paint the aileron tab. Apply the top skin to the aileron then trim away the excess, then repeat with the underside skin. That's it for this week, carefully store the aileron castings which will be added later on. The ailerons, fin and elevators are covered in the self adhesive material to replicate that these surfaces in real life were covered with a fabric material. The rest of the wing panels are covered in etched aluminium skin panels. 49 - Contains an aileron leading and trailing edge, aileron ribs and counter balance.Remove any burrs from the actuator and counter balance. The assembly and placement of the right-wing (starboard) aileron is identical to that of the port-wing aileron previously fitted. There is no info in this stage to skin this aileron as before, but I will be leaving the starboard side of the model unskinned to allow viewing the interior content of the model. That's it for this week, carefully store the actuator and counter balance. Future parts sets/stages:50 - Contains the engine back plate, mounting racks, spark plug and distributor cables, screws and nuts. 51 - Contains the tail assembly jig, tailbraces, bulkhead frames, machine gun handle and the elevator trim control. 52 - Contains the aileron covering, magazine cover, radio tray and elevator trim tab control chains. 53 - Contains fuselage bulkheads, engine mounting plate and tail braces. 50 - Contains the engine back plate, engine mounting racks, spark plug & distributor cables, screws and nuts.
Remove any burrs and carefully file the moulding tabs from the arms of all four engine mounting racks.
Assemble each rack onto the engine mount back plate as shown in the steps, securing the arms with screws/nuts but leave slightly loose to allow movement.
Locate the engine cradle onto the bulkead forewall, slooting each of the cradle legs into place. When happy with the fit, tighten the screws.
Remove the engine cradle from the bulkhead and paint it black.
Engine wiring - You can choose to matt the gloss from the wire by passing across a piece of fine emery paper, (certainly both ends of the cut lengths should be keyed to assist with bonding).
Cut 28 lengths of brown Spark Plug cable at the following lengths: 15mm x7, 23mm x7, 33 x7 and 40mm x7. Ensure that none are cut short.
Cut four 62mm lengths of the black Distributor cable and bare 1mm of insulation from both ends.
Glue the distributor cables onto the electrode tube at the indicated mount points and route as between the cylinders tot he oposite side as shown
Carefully follow the steps to glue each of the spark plug cables from the mount points indicated on the electrode tube and onto the spark plug caps. Work your way around the engine to fit each wire in turn as per the wire length indicated in the steps.
That's it for this week., store the remaning brown wire.

51 - Contains the tail assembly jig, tailbraces, bulkhead frames, machine gun handles,e elevator trim control and the elevator trim control wheel.I opted to set aside the tail framework assembly for this stage until stage 53, where further frames are provided. At stage 51 the tail framework assembly is minimal and very fragile, and where further frames not added tot he assembly until stage 53, where the tail framework will then become more rigid.
Remove any burrs from the castings, (trim tab, elevator trim tab control wheel and the machine gun handles), then paint/finish as shown.
I slightly deepened the mount points on the machine gun handles with a 1mm bit, then glued the handles onto the spigot on the machine gun sides within the copckpit as shown.
That's it for this stage, store the elevator trim tab control and trim tab control wheel.

52 - Contains the aileron covering, magazine cover, radio tray and elevator trim tab control chains.
53 - Contains fuselage bulkheads, engine mounting plate and tail braces.

52 - Conains the magazine cover, radio tray and elevator trim tab control chains.
Cut the magazine cover from the fret and smooth the cut points. Take care not to remove the projections highlighted.
Test-fit the magazine cover onto the front of the magazine, when happy with the fit glue the cover in position.
Cut both chains from the fret, then glue one to each side of the chain blank to creat a single chain.
Retrieve the trim tab control panel and wheel. Glue the panel into the cockpit as shown.
Glue the wheel onto the chain, then glue the assembly onto the trim tab panel.
Align and glue the radio tray and its support together. Then glue the radio tray assembly at the rear of the cockpit as shown.
If you are skinning all of your model, proceed to skinning the right-wing aileron in the same way that you fitted and painted the skin for the left-wing aileron.
That's it for this stage, store the remaining fret of parts.

Stage 53 - Contains fuselage bulkheads, engine mounting plate and tail braces.
As mentioned at stage 51, the tail assembly in 51 was set aside until this stage.
At this stage need to decide if you are painting your tail framework aotake blue or leave it unpainted.
Cut the longitudinal braces from 51 as shown to create 4 brace lengths (upper and lower)
Take the tail jig and remove the indicated parts from it and set them aside, then apply masking tape to the jig in the area indicated.
Take bulkhead 7a and fit the two lower braces as shown, then fit the bulkhead into the jig and add the jig front plate 'B' to the jig.
Lift the braces at the opposite end and slide jig piece 'C' into the jig, rest the braces centrally on the top of the plate.
Place bulkhead 13b in place so that its projections face away from the assembly.
Fit the two upper braces into the central notches of frames 7a and 13b.
Apply Superglue to all contact points between the braces and the frames (I used Loctite 496), making sure that it does not get onto the jig pieces. Allow the glue to fully set before continuing, then carefully remove the assembly from the jig.
Take both 7b bulkheads and glue them together, aligning the notches and holes. Number the bulkhead on a pice of masking tape then set aside for future addition to the assembly.
This completes the issue 51 tail assembly.
Issue 53 - Take the engine mounting plate castings and remove any burrs. Test fit the parts togther then glue them. Paint the assembly grey to match that of the engine casing.
Take the previously assembled engine cradle, test fit the engine plate onto its face, remove and set aside, (it will be glued in place later on).
Cut the longitudinal braces as shown in the steps to create thee pairs of braces A, B and C. (C is the shortest and B is the longest).
Continue the tail framework assembly by adding bulkheads 8-12 in the positions indicated. Ensure that each is secured into the notches at the top and bottom of each bulkhead.
Note - You may find there is a parts reference typo error on page 207 at step 13, which notes longitudinal brace 'B', when in fact the part being referred to is brace 'A'. (brace 'B' is shown at step 20 of page 208.
Take one of the 'A' longitudinal braces and fit it to the bulkhead notches shown as shown in the steps, then repeat at the opposite side of the framework.
Apply glue to all the contact areas between the bulkheads and braces, allow the glue to set before continuing.
Add bulkhead 13a to the assembly at the aft end of the framework, engage the notches then apply glue to set it in place.
Take a 'B' longitudinal brace, fit to the bulkhead notches as shown then repeat on the opposite side of the framework. Apply glue at each joint then set the assembly aside for future construction.
That's it for this stage, carfully store the engine mounting plate and 'C' longitudinal braces.

54 - Contains fuselage bulkheads, tail braces and an oil tank.
55 - Contains tail bulkheads and a fuel tank.
56 - Contains tail baces and the reduction gear housing.

Stage 54 - Contains fuselage bulkheads, tail braces and an oil tank.
Remove any burrs from the oil tank and finish in your chosen option.
Separate both tail brace frets as shown to make up pairs 'A' and 'B'. Store aside the 'B' braces for later use.
Take bulkheads, 7.1, 7.2, 7.5 and 8.5, fit them into the coresponding notches of tail section as shown, then fit the 'A' braces along the length of the tail frame as shown.
Apply glue to all the contact points between the braces and bulkheads.
Fit bulkhead 13.5 at the aft end of the tail section, secure with glue and ensure that it sits upright.
That's it for this stage, store the oil tank and remaining tail braces.
Future stages:
55 - Contains tail bulkheads and a fuel tank.
56 - Contains tail baces and the reduction gear housing.
57 - Contains parts fir the rudder and arrester.
