Now finished the planking up to issue 31... Wasn't too happy with the pictures I posted last night, too dark and rather blurry. Retaken and posted again, these are a lot better... Now going back to work on the San Fran II and hopefully will have the infills completed before issue 32 comes out on Wednesday.....  Gandale attached the following image(s):

Lovely planking job there Alan, as said by MWG, really nice and uniform. The SOTS has beautiful graceful lines about her hull and you've captured them perfectly.  She really does look like a warship of her time,the link between the Elizabethan galleons and the Georgian first rates! She'll be a stunning model!  Well done! I do love the way she is coming together but at the same time the feeling of aprehension is starting to creep in as we get closer to marking and cutting out the gun ports....  .. All the comments you've been getting are well deserved Alan! I agree the gun port cutting out is a daunting prospect but the actual 'doing' of it becomes surprisingly easy after the first couple. I found the easiest method for myself was this way (I've never worked with bamboo planks however!) After the gunport has been CAREFULLY marked out, drill a small hole in each corner about 2mm in from the pencil line, make sure the first hole is large enough for the router bit that follows! Using a dremel type tool with a diamond dust router bit (either cylindrical or tiny ball end) start at one of the top holes and slowly grind down again 2mm in (might be worth drawing a second line 2mm in around the port come to think of it) until you reach the bottom hole, repeat on the other side and then the top and bottom horizontal cuts. When you reach the last hole the inside ot the port should just fall out leaving you with a thin piece of wood to remove by careful filing AND THAT'S THE REALLY CAREFUL BIT!  I found it easiest to have a pile of heavy books in front of the ship so I could rest my wrist holding the dremel and also guide the tool with the other hand too. And thats all there is to it!  If I were you and you have some spare planking I think I'd make up a little section of planked wall on a 1/2" square frame about 3" square or so and try it out on that first just in case the bamboo doesn't like the router! Hope that's of some help and best of luck when you get there! looking great alan, not far until those gun ports come along, personally i cant wait to start, though i did a test with a cheap rotary tool i managed to buy, using the cutting disk is handy because it gives a straight cut but its not as easy as i thought, but much easier than doing it by hand i suppose, im sure it will come along nicely!
