Webber and Vettel, who is going to blink first and who are you hoping for a podium place?

The Red Bulls always shine at Shanghai Circuit and Webber and Vettel have usually finished close to each other and near the front, so I don't think it will be any different this weekend?? I reckon Webber will have a touch of the 'red mist' this weekend, so I'm gonna say that he'll finish in front of Vettel, though I don't think he will interfere with Vettels' chances just yet. That will come later in the year when it gets a bit critical!!

It will be interesting to see how the McLarens go as apparently they have really got on top of their understanding of where the new car was failing aerodynamically? So, I think they will be showing a big improvement and will probably be up towards the front of the grid after qualifying.

Not to sure on the maclarens kev as the upgrades they are putting on would only be in line with what they had already intended for the race so don't think they will be any higher than 7th or 8th, hope I'm wrongConfused .
As for red bull webber still hasn't the skill or killer instinct as vettel, so he will only finish 3rd highest if vettel doesn't have a problem.

My prediction is:-

1st. Vettel
2nd Massa
3rd webber

Hi Pete,

I take your points but I think they are more than just upgrades that were due to come online for China?

From what I've read the problems they have been having were due to the airflow beneath the car suddenly separating from the aerodynamic shape of the underside when it was set up to run in a low ride height configuration? Much like when an aircraft wing suddenly stalls because the airflow separates from the wing surface causing loss of lift, but it is upside down on an F1 car so it suddenly loses downforce making it suddenly uncontrollable? Apparently it is all down to a basic design flaw that went unnoticed in pre-season practice for some reason? I also read that McLaren have been working flat out around the clock in the three weeks break to redesign the area that is causing the problem, at great expense, and it was also said that if they could keep the car stuck to the road the way it should be, the 2013 McLaren will be the fastest car on the grid. Also, because it is a revolutionary design and not evolutionary like the rest of the grid it has the prospect of being developed much more than the others through the rest of the season??

As you say Pete let's hope your wrong, and that they have fixed the design flaw - I certainly hope so!!

You say that Webber doesn't have the killer instinct of Vettel and normally I would agree with you 100% but I was taking into account that Webber will be looking for revenge after the 'Multi 21' incident, hence why I mentioned the 'Red Mist' (LOL), which will give him the killer instinct he needs to beat Vettel. I've noticed in the past when Mark gets angry he suddenly drives much better. Remember Silverstone (I think it was 2011?) when they took the new front wing off Marks' car to give it to Vettel after he damaged his and they didn't have another spare? Mark was furious and went out and blitzed Vettel to win the race with the OLD design wing!! I think his quote on the slowing down lap was " Not bad for a number 2 driver!!". I think he will still be fuming about Malaysia and will drive outside his skin this weekend to prove a point? Though I could be wrong and he may just do as he is told and stay behind Vettel?! BigGrin

My prediction is:

1. Webber
2. Alonso
3. Vettel
4. Button
5. Hamilton
6. Massa

Sticking my neck out now!!! Blink Scared LOL LOL

Thanks for the interesting discussion Pete - whoever is right doesn't matter, I just think it is going to be a storming race and I can't wait for Sunday!! ThumpUp

I would be very surprised if we see much difference in the Mclaren in qually, it never has been Jensons strong point!

We already know the car has race pace from Malaysia, just an unfortunate pit stop cost the podium?
Does seem strange that they are advertising the changes though, you would've thought that they would keep that sort of thing quiet, and let the results do the talking?

If they have managed to make significant changes to the car then there's a great chance that Checo and Jenson could both get podiums

But then you can never write off Alonso, regardless where he qualifies, he'll get a decent start and use his team influences to get the better pit slots and get the jump on others

Webber / Vettel?
I'm hoping for another Turkey 2010 event BigGrin
I do admire Vettel for what he's achieved, but he's ego does need to be brought down a peg or two and another team mate collision should do just that!

my top 3?

Hopes Reality
1.Button 1.Vettel
2.Perez 2.Alonso
3.Raikkonen 3.Webber / Raikkonen

One thing I admire and like about Mark Webber is that when he is put in a situation like this and starting from the back then he has the bit between his teeth and nothing gets in his way.. and I would like to think that he would be on the podium tomorrow...BigGrin

Hamilton pole....very well done. The Mercedes is looking awesome this weekend. The race is going to be all about strategy and tyres...and of course all eyes on the Red Bulls, already controversy, Webber conveniently has a fuel issue in Q2? hmmmm!

My prediction for the race:

1 Hamilton
2 Alonso
3 Rosberg or Massa cant make up my mind.

Either way, I hope for a great race and maybe even more fireworks in the Red Bull team lol.

I can't imagine that it was the case but the conspiracy theorists out there could probably be justified in saying that Webbers fuel problem was to keep him as far away from Vettel on the grid as possibleBlink ..if that was the case they have shot themselves in the foot, with him having to start at the back it messes with constructors points rather badly.

Nice to see Alonso win, drawing him level with Nigel Mansell on the sport's all-time win list, leaving only Michael Schumacher, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna ahead of him.

Very interesting race!

I love seeing mixed tire tactics,Vettel and Button making the longer stints work for them, one more lap and Vettel would have had a podium
So now you do have to quesion what is the point of qualifying?

Webber was very unlucky (as always) was looking for a very strong points finish before his coming together with the torro rosso, and then his wheel coming off

Looks like he's got a grid penaly too for Bahrain

Got to tip my hat off to Alonso, very strong finish, just can't help but dislike him though Flapper
