Superb stuff Pete, well done and I love the clippy and her ticket machine!!
Can I just ask what material those Locust boxes are made of - it looks like that VERY useful stuff called 'Lead Foil' though I can't imagine they would allow live creatures to be kept in something that incorporates lead!?

hi petpole, my old man was a clippy,(conductor) and spent many hours travelling on the 187 route (north london) and the no.7 route (west london) this was the rm bus, then the routemaster came in my teens, late 50's. I thought it very strange when I saw my first female clippy, she wore trousers, and the uniform was exactly the same as my dads, I used to play for hours with the ticket machine, the first one was just a punch, which used to punch a hole in the separate ticket, which was kept in a wooden ticket type clip board, all the tickets being different prices and colours for the various stages to land at. the second ticket machine used rolls of white paper with all the information on it. sometimes when he worked on the late shift I used to help him count the takings, so he could pay next morning. the coin bag was a square leather open type bag with partitions of layers to take halfpennies, pennies, thrupennies bits(three pence pieces) tanners(sixpenny pieces)and silver, like shillings, two bob,and half crowns. his badge was round with his number on and london transport around the edge in green, the drivers had red edging. the driver was very much in charge of the bus, and was called upon to sort any trouble or non payers. the inspectoe was feared and reviled by all,and were dictators in every way, ready to pounce at the slightest infringement of the driver or conductor, I hope I havn't bored you too much with my nostalgic ramblings, good luck and thanks petpole for bringing those memories back. k. Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/

Hi Karl That's not boring in the slightest, it is stories like this that keeps history alive and adds meaning to models like this. It sounds like Blakey was a lamb compared to the real inspectors. You seem to have some very fond memories of that time of your life. Hi Peter Great build I have been following with interest and can't wait to see the finished model.

Lovely stuff Karl, always nice to reminisce and you seem to remember it with fondness? Good old days them, though I'm not as long in the tooth (born in '59), I do feel that they were better in many ways? Proper money as well, as you mentioned with ha'pennies, pennies, sixpences, shillings and half crowns and the old green £1 notes!! I just about remember the florin too with the little Robin on the front - lovely old coinage and why did we have to go over to the stupid French decimal system anyway?? There was nothing wrong with our own system!! Just the thought of how it used to be is a ray of sunshine in what is a dark and different modern world of today - definitely wish we could go back to when life was simpler ... and easier!! You've made my day with your nostalgic writings Karl - Thanks!!!
Great build Peter and I fully intend to do one of these myself, you've inspired me so much with your bus!!

born in 61 i can also remember these days well, i remember rushing down the stairs and swinging on the pole with "no door" the clippie warning us to watch out and not go too close to the exit while sitting on the long seat on the right. my father in law was a maintenance guy on the buses and stated that these buses were much better and more reliable that the modern ones.no health and safety issues as you jumped on and off while the bus was still moving. as for the inspectors - you did not dare lose your ticket just in-case. my grandson who is three saw me looking at your build and wants me to make one for him as he is mad on buses and spend a great day at the bus museum at Lathalmond outside Dunfermline current builds
