Bernd, thank you for that inspirational comment, it really is appreciated..Cool . Yes this is my very first build but have to say I would not have got to the stage I am at without the guidance and knowledge from some truly excellent modellers within this forum, too many to thank by name. Their diary's and tips have been a godsend and to everyone who has given comment on my diary or given assistance along the way I give my sincere thanks...BigGrin BigGrin .. Thanks again Bernd and keep up the good work.....

Had a good session working on the old girl today.. first order of business was to shape the final plank to tidy up the base of the gallery..

Hoorraahhhh BigGrin BigGrin , finally finished the first layer of planking. BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin .. Was a little concerned about how rigid the planking would be especially around the strakes that were not attached to the ribs, relying simply on gluing along the plank edges.. To try and ensure the best possible fit and give rigidity I decided to sand the bevelled edges of the bamboo strip (not too much though). It did make the planking a lot more rigid but in the end the final two short pieces at the stern fell short of the top of the rib by just under 2mm. Don't think this will cause any problems but will know for sure when we get the measurements in the next issue. Will add half a plank (lengthways) and sand down if necessary once I know for definate....Cool Cool

Tomorrow hopefully will get down to trimming the plank ends at the bow bulkhead plus trim down the stern planks and taper. That should leave me free at the weekend to start the sanding/filling process.....Cool Cool ..

Thanks to all for looking in..... BigGrin BigGrin

BigGrin Hi Alan
Its not uncommon to have a couple of mil short here and there as tapering and bevelling edges can take planks back, all you need to do is add an extra plank to make up the missing bit and sand back to the required levels later. Sometimes your a little hard on yourself m8 , your doing a great job and all you have done is a credit too you
regards

Thanks Andy for those very kind words...BigGrin BigGrin . Hard on myself, yes I suppose I am at times....swmbo has often told me I am my own worst critic but I also know my military background always told me if a job was to be done then do it right, don't waste time by having to do it again because you took shortcuts.... BigGrin BigGrin .. Will add the extra short plank either side and sand back as you suggest... Putting it all down to the learning process and that is one aspect that has hooked me on this hobby..... learning by experience and the advice of others.. Cool Cool

Appreciate your comments and advice as always m8......Cool Cool

Regards

Alan

First order of business was to trim down the overhanging planks at the bow and stern, leaving of course the 2mm overhang at the stern upright...This was done using a razor saw... BigGrin BigGrin
