Superglue or Cyanoacrylate (CA) is a widely used Glue particularly useful for bonding Metal to Metal or Metal to Plastic. But what do you do if a mistake occurs? Either by gluing the wrong parts together or because of the rapid action of CA grab occurs before you've got your piece positioned correctly. For Large pieces sometimes a scalpel can be used to carefully separate the pieces by cutting the Bond. However for delicate Photo-Etch Pieces this is a non-starter. So here is how to do it without damaging the parts. For Metal to Metal Bonds use Acetone, readily available as Nail Varnish remover, but you can buy the real thing on EBay, there are also commercial debonders available but they are expensive and Acetone is much cheaper. Acetone will dissolve the Superglue completely, but it may take a while to penetrate under large areas, I use an Ultrasonic Bath which works in a few tens of seconds. Unfortunately for Metal to Plastic or Plastic to Plastic this is a non starter as the Acetone will also dissolve the Plastic. In these cases you need to take advantage of the fact that CA melts at around 75 Degrees Centigrade. So Boil the Kettle and let it cool a little and then in a container of this water at 80-90C immerse the parts and gently pull, nudge or prise and they will fall apart. Hot water from the Tap is not Hot enough as it is only 50-60C and remember you are only a few degrees above the melting point, so if you remove it from the Hot Water it will cool rapidly and the Glue will solidify again. For Skin use Acetone, but it does tend to evaporate very quickly on Warm Skin. So you can use a mix of Acetone and Vaseline, about 50:50.

Unfortunately I learnt that tip a long tome ago.. when I mean unfortunately, it was when i was doing a Resin cast kit and used hot water to form some of the parts into chape that didn't fit but all the bonded parts fell off after 10 mins!!!

if you stick your fingers togeather theres no need to panic the oil in your skin destroys the glue, but dont try to pull your fingers apart stright away give it some time
