I would have thought that trying to lift the whole thing completely out of the water without a supportive cage is extremely risky and will likely end in disaster (a £500,000 disaster!!)? I know they say they can't push bars beneath it because of the bedrock, but surely it would be better just to lift it sufficiently enough to slide the lower half of a cage beneath and then lower back down gently, complete the cage and continue that way?

Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen if you ask me, which would be a great shame!!

I agree Kev..a sort of amalgamation of the 2 schemes as it were...much faster than the original but a lot safer than the 2nd....it would be a shame to lose such a rare piece of not only our history but also of Germany's...although I know plenty of Germans who would say any reminder of those days should be left to rot,needless to say they are among the many Germans who feel the need to constantly apologise for Hitler & his ambitions.
