Ok here is the answer.

The Russians tried something called Slat armour, refered to as 'Bed spring Armour', as it looked similar to what it says!!LOL BigGrin They were trying to find and answer to the new German panzerfaust, and discovered that a steel frame with a steel mesh would disrupt the shaped charge of the warhead by either crushing it, preventing optimal detonation from occurring, or by damaging the fuzing mechanism, preventing detonation outright. Although slat armor is effective against incoming missiles, it does not offer complete protection – as many as 50% of impacts are unimpeded by the slat design. So they took a T34/85 and welded these frames with the mesh around the turret and parts of the hull.
On test day, all the high commanders arrived, and so confident were they that it worked, they asked one of the commanders to sit in the tank.
The test began. Unfortunately the soldier firing the panzerfaust was closer than had been tested, and consequently blew the turret off, killing the crew and the high commander!!
Despite the sudden demise of this commander and crew, the test was carried out again (on an unmanned tank this time!), and worked. The armour was used in battle and you can get models of the T-34/85 with this add on!!!BigGrin BigGrin

The Grille was a weapon built in 1943.

1: Can you name the place where the first batch was built?
2: And what was its official designation?

It's an easy one but I'm not to good at these quizzes LOL
