A word to the wise in case you don't know, keep the lengths of tape at about 6" to stop damage caused by thermal expansion/contraction,it may not be a lot but it can rip the hull to pieces.

Hi Cal

What you've got down so far looks fine. It may be just the photo giving exaggerated shadows but you might need to do a little extra sanding and or filling in the bottom right part of the picture. The copper tape needs a really flat and smooth surface to bring it off well, being much thinner than the copper tiles they will show every little bump or depression underneath them!
Also, I gave my hull a couple of coats of satin varnish to give the tape a good surface to adhere to, any dust underneath and I found the tape would peel back after a while.
Best of luck with your taping Cal, it's quite relaxing after a while and a hell of a lot cheaper than tiling it too!

Quite true Robin, the adhesive on the tape needs a smooth, preferably glossy surface to adhere to, and when completed, keep the model away from sources of heat such as a radiator, as this can soften the adhesive and cause the tape bands to move or drop as they expand and contract.

Certainly speeds up the process though..

Hi Oledad!

The cheapest place for the copper tape (where I got mine from) is good old Ebay. My rolls appear to be 6mm in width, I can't remember how long they were but I bought a pack of 5 and ended up having to get another pack to complete the hull (and my Victory was only 1/100 scale!)Blink
Just look under copper tape or slug tape and you should find it.

Robin.

Be careful when looking for copper tape because while an expensive item like your gold and silver some of it is absolute rubbish.

I would check hobby sites first because some of the cheap stuff you can get is not copper, some of it if it is copper is so thin its unuseable.

You have a big investment in time and money on a one off special build so be careful what you pick for the foiling.
Happy Modelling
