Lower front superstructure continued.
Total build time 97.5 hours

Added the etch and painted the starboard side of the forward superstructure. as per the previous post most of the etch is from the MK1 set. the only real difference to the other side is the addition of a small platform. I have also now added the deck.

Deck Fittings Continued.
Total build time 102hours

Main brake water is now in. There is some Eduard etch that can be added to this but I have chosen not to, I only see the value in adding those parts if you are having the support struts down, I wanted mine up so did not feel i would get the return on the effort.

There are two training guns on the stern deck, both are different. there is no etch upgrade for these so a rare occasion to build as per the original kit. My only change was to drill out the muzzle of one of the guns.

Fancied doing something a bit different today so decided to have a crack at radar 4.
I thought it would be interesting to see what you get in the different upgrade sets compared to the original kit.

The base kit comprises of 17 parts 8 are plastic and and 9 are etch.

The Eduard set builds on this in the main and replaces some of the etch with their own. The radar mesh is replaced but not the mount. The Eduard mesh is harder to construct and i don't see any great improvement so would stick with the kit part if I only had the Eduard set. There is a drill template for mounting the hand irons but the drill points are so close to the edge i don't see how it can be used?

The MK1 set does not ad as much detail as the Eduard but is simpler to construct. They do replace the mast with turned brass parts which are really nice. MK1 also have a replacement radar mesh that is quite complex but in my view the closest to the original.

I have decide to go with a mix of all three depending on detail. this takes me from the original 17 parts to 43 parts of which only 6 are plastic!

BigGrin Hi Jase
I had thought that all the etch we three have accrued that the choice of parts would at times be mind boggling but its also a way of all three of use building three ships with subtle differences. Keep the pics coming

Nice analysis, JaseThumpUp. I like the idea of 'Pick and Mix' parts, as Andy says, it allows for a bit of individuality on our builds. Plus your build's coming along nicelyThumpUp.

Radar IV
total build time 107 hours

I will let the pics do the talking. the radar is not finished yet but one are and the mast are done. my only other comment is be careful of the MK1 instructions!! i built the mast as per the instructions then found the ladder to long this is because the instructions have you mount the spar to low but it is correct in the photo of the radar assembly. my spar should be higher but only you and i knowBigGrin Mad BigGrin

Thanks both all the etch is quite a strain on my lungs - a lot of breath holding LOL LOL LOL just painting the radar at the moment will have some pics soon - it certainly looks the partDrool Love

but for now this id the MK1 mesh by far the most accurate of the three I have but the most difficult to mount. Oh and very difficult to photo as the auto focus see right through it!!

and this is the original.
