Hi, strange question, as am new to this, the book says to paint the metal cannon and the wooden carriage with primer, I have wood primer & metal primer, what are they asking for? is it OK to use just 1 type of primer? Regards Eric

Hi Eric and welcome to the forum. I am not sure if this will answer your question but I used a sanding sealer on the wooden parts and a auto primer on the metal parts. I do believe you need to go with the effect of what your are looking for. There are a number of builds on this forum that build a historically and 100 percent scale model and others like me who give and take liberties for the sake of effect or personal preference. I wanted a natural colour and so I used two types of varnish and the natural wood on various areas. The choice remains yours. Hope this helps. Rgds, Hans

We have been told that priming the wood is a excellent idea, especially to keep the look of the paint in place. My question is, where does one purchase a small tin of wood primer? Didn't know there was such a thing...  Current Build:

I bought a 'small', i.e. 500ml, tin of wood primer at Builers Wharehouse (Plascon). Not sure if you can get anything smaller. Enjoy the build Kobus

Hi Eric, As Hans, I also use Sanding Sealer for the timber components. This is available in aerosol cans and tins. The smallest tin that I've found is 500ml, but this will keep for a long time. For the metal parts, I use aerosol metal primer. One point though, make sure you wash the metal parts in soapy water to remove all the mould release agent. Otherwise the paint may peel off. Just a thought, always test the paints on some off-cut material to test compatibility!!! Hope this helps Kind regards, Garth "Measure twice, cut once!!!"

Regards Eric Metal primer has finer pigment than wood primer to have better grip. Some primers has an oily basis which can interfere with the adherence of the Acrylic paint.
