I believe that is the 105-mm M102 Howitzer cannon fitted to the AC-130 gunship, although it was tried as an experiment by the italians during WW2 usin g the Piagio P.108A heavy bomber as he test bed,it never saw action....thankfully Rob Nolli Illigitimi Carborundum!!!Current Builds: HMS Victory, SV Thermopylae

Hello Rob,
Is it a very early 'experimental' prototype of the Boeing V-22 'Osprey' Tilt-Rotor aircraft?
Or possibly an 'experimental' prototype of the Canadair CL-84 'Dynavert' Tilt-Rotor aircraft?

Neither i'm afraid, however it was an experimental prototype tilt rotor. Can't say anymore i'm afraid as that would give the game away..I will say that later in its development it was taken over by Boeing. Rob Nolli Illigitimi Carborundum!!!Current Builds: HMS Victory, SV Thermopylae

It was the Vertol VZ-2 - developed by NASA from 1957 until 1965 in which time it made 450 flights!! Only one aircraft was ever made which is now preserved in the U.S.
Vertol later became Boeing Vertol.

Hello Rob, to be honest my friend you didn't give the game away with any clues - I did an AOL search for images of VSTOL aircraft and came across the same picture. Great question by the way, I found that to be some very interesting research - thanks!!
My question:
NOT including the Red Arrows (past or present) name four RAF Display Teams whose names have included a colour and I also want to know the type and mark of the aircraft that each team used for display?
