Good Day Hans. Issue 9 Now Enjoying this build. Cannons are done and looking great. That wire twisting was a tuffy but managed to compromise Reaching an interesting stage now. Question. Is it essential to build a display stand on the keel? or can I build a separate one later closer to when its done? like the Victory? I still want to you move the model around check areas etc... Hi CJ The choice is totally yours. You are going to move your model around quite a bit while building but there is nothing stopping you building a display for use later on. You will have to have completed the hull before you permanently attach the hull to the display stand. Some modellers light up there models and use the the stand as a conduit for the wiring. Hope this helps. Hi Kobus, Thank you for the information. Good luck with your build. Please keep me updated on how you go. I am upto episode 6, and I am waiting now for my delivery from Jacklin. I have finished the two cannons, which I really enjoyed completing. Regards Chantel[/quote] Hi Chantel I'm at issue 5 and waiting for my next delivery from Jacklin. As Hans has said this hobby will teach you patience! When we start with the hull layering, we will be glad for the time between deliveries. I will also start my build diary under the SA Forum. Hi CJ In most cases you do not have to buy tools at a model shop. Most of my modelling tools I have bought at Builders Warehouse, they stock a good range of Rolston tools, a littel expensive, but well worth it. A lot of other tools I bought at Art and Craft shops, flea markets etc. Cape Watchmakers is also a good source for various tweezers, drill bits, vices and optiviiews. Mine have been sourced over time. Check under Tool Suggestions, MWG and others have listed basic tools but at the end of the day, buy only what you need, when you need, unless you have an unlimited source of income. Enjoy!! Hi, Is anyone else frustrated with Jacklin and the delivery of the issues. I placed an order with them on 27th April and I am still waiting to receive issues 6 onwards from them. Also, they have not sent me any tools as they have run out of stock. I am currently on line for 16 minutes trying to figure out when the next delivery will be. It turns out that due to the high interest and subscribers, they have run out of stock with the gifts and the issue number 6 and 7. Good luck with anyone else waiting out there. Please let me know if you are feeling my pain. Regards Chantel Current Build HMS Sovereign of the Seas (First time build)

Hi Chantel, I have received my issues 6 & 7 last week from Jacklin, which was my second delivery. As I was expecting four issues in this delivery, I was hugly frustrated and disappointed. I phoned Jacklin and queried the two issues. Their response was that it was explained in my welcoming letter, which I didn't received, that your first two deliveries only consist of two issues per delivery. Further more they also stated it depends on when you joined, as that determines your post date, i.e. I joined on 13 April and my post date is the 15 th of each month now. I wanted to cancel my subscription, but realised that I' m already two issues behind the shops and made an arrangement with them to sent my an interm delivery with the next three issues. Still waiting to see if they will make that delivery. On the issue of the gifts, which has not been delivered, their response to me was exactely the same as yours, they ran out of stock and will post when received. Regards Kobus

HI Chantel and Kobus. Sorry to hear about the frustration with Jacklin, however it has been my experience and a few others on the forum that subscriptions in the beginning sometime do become frustrating. The good news is that is does sort itself out. I have a couple of subscriptions with Jacklin and one with CNA and have had same problem with both. Bearing in mind these issues come in from overseas, if they have difficulties, so do we. So far my experience has been that the problems occur in the first 10 issues and then it settles down to regular deliveries. You will also find that as the build goes on, you will have more issues than what you can build. Just as an example I received issue 120 of the Victory three months ago and am still busy with issue 101, so please be patient with them. Hi Chantel, trust me patience was and is not one of my strengths either, but believe me with this hobby, you need plenty of it otherwise you are going to be doing things over and over. Hi Guys, I feel your pain. I have been down the Jacklin route before and never again. Between them and the postal service (or no service), a ship like this cannot afford to have missing issues etc. I go to my local can every sunday afternoon to pick my next issue with no problems. Hans - Regards falling behind on the issues, where do you start noticing this? Is it when the planking of the hull starts? (I would think this takes some time) Another thing - I am looking at ordering the figurines early for this ship. Have you heard if figurines are supplied with SOTS or do we need to get separately? Thanks Cuan Current Build: HMS SOTS HMS Victory HMS Surprise

HI Cuan It all depends on how many hours you spend on building and if you are doing any modifications, lighting etc. I collected until I had all the ribs before I started. Time caught up and next moment I was behind the supplied issues and just started collecting issues. I think with all the decorations on the SOTS this is definitely going to happen. If there are figurines involved, I saw Mr.T mentioned it somewhere in the Official Build around issue 36-40. Hope this helps. Good Day to All A hearty welcome to all the new members. I have subscribed with Jacklin and to date have received all parts up to No 8. I have had no problems with them concerning the issues. When I requested a replacement for a part that had been damaged, I received it at no expense to me. I will be collecting most of the issues before I start building as I want to finish the HMS Victory first due to limited workspace. Hans, have you received any of the free gifts as I have not but will be sending a mail to Jacklin to find out the status. Kobus, I will also be going the route of buying wood in Pretoria when I start planking, but will find a cabinet maker to saw the wood into the correct sizes and lengths. Regards Andre Current Build: HMS Victory

Hi Andre I have only received up to issue 4. To date nothing else. Jacklin normally take their time with free items as it depends on when the supply arrives. Andre Hi Andre I have received upto issue 7 but no gifts yet. I've spoken to Jacklin and they said that they ran out of gifts and will post when in stock. On the wood issue - Silverton Timbers do have the wood but only in planks, i.e. 25 x 200 x 3000, and they can not cut to size. If you know of a good cabinet maker who can saw the wood into the required dimensions, please let me know. Regards Kobus

Good Day All. Upto Issue 15 now. Its really worth waiting for all issues in relation to the rib frames and keel as I could dry fit them first to see if all aligns. Just a tip im passing on hope da experts agree. Deck, ribs and keel are all good so far. However I do have a Q. My launch is assembled and primed but I can't find the right colours to paint. Any Ideas where I can find? Past times don have those colours. Can I paint it in similar colours? Regards Mogamad Current Build - HMS SOTS

Hi Mogamad. To collect all the parts and dry fitting before assembly is always a good idea. It allows you to correct all the small issues that can create a huge problem at the end. Just make sure that your jig is straight and true. As far as the colours go, you can order the correct colours from the on line shop or mix colours to match. I personally use the Dada Acrylic colours from CNA and mix to the colour scheme that I want. It all depends on how you are building and how close to the original you want to be. It is all about your choice and what you want to see as the end product. Hope this helps. Mogamad Hi Mogamad I searched through all the builds for the colours being used and found some valuable info from Mr T, in one of his replies. He used Humbrol acrylic paints, RC417 and RC 418. The RC stands for Rail Colours. I bought mine over the weekend in Pretoria but any good hobby shop should stock it. Hope this helps. Regards Kobus
