The battle is between finding a needle fine enough to push through the shrouds without too much effort/damage but with an eye large enough to accomodate the .25 thread and being men with fat fingers and little patience not an easy task
The answer I found is "Needle Threaders". You use this little device to pull the thread through the eye and not push easy peasy
