Upgrading the funnel
Total build time 131.5 hours

I have completed the funnel top while other parts are drying. Most the parts are from the kit, I had to replace the wire frame on the top of the funnel with the MK1 etch as the kit part was to fine and bent to easily. the lower grab rail is MK1 while the other from the kit as it was a better fit. The ehust pipes have all been drilled through. I have used semi gloss black for the inner parts and the outer funnel has been painted 2 parts chrome silver 1 part titanium gold.

Derek I am glad your enjoying the build. But honestly it is not difficult just needs lots of research material and a bit of planning and thought. I am certainly not the best model builder on the forum just enjoy what I do which is what this hobby is all about in my viewBigGrin

Upgrading the funnel
Total build time 146 hours.

Installed the cranes today. one is stowed away while the other is swung out. I have not decided yet if I am going to dangle one of the seaplanes from it yet. another decision was around the searchlight pods. There is some nice etch walkways slung underneath, which are hidden if the pod is open. So i have opted for one open one closed. my thinking is the catapult will be extended on the Port side with the crane out and the searchlight pod open. on the starboard side everything will be stowed. will have a go at adding the power cables on the cranes. if you don't see them you know id didn't go well LOL LOL. All in all it is nearly done just have to finish the handrails add railings ladders and cages and finish the painting. i will add the searchlights and machine guns later.

Completing the upgraded Funnel
Total build time 158.5 hours

Having added the copper wire cables and painted the platform the final etch could go on for this area. the ladders and the panel are the kit parts. MK1 provide railings which is wrong Confused and their ladders just don,t look right. The Eduard lasers are no improvement on the kit part in my opinion. couple of bits of wire were aded for the pipe work under the vent. I also added some brass rod to the railing on the crane platform.

I have added power cables to the cranes. Eduard supply the boxes for the cables that sit under the crane platform. Fortunately the copper wire I had stripped out of the old electric cable was a perfect fitBigGrin I glued the wires in first which made placing the boxes easier also. Once in I could bend the wires with tweezers and trim down with wire cutters finally cementing to the crane.

The Eduard etch platform was added under the closed searchlight pod.

Below are a couple of links to some of the research i used.
http://www.kbismarck.com/photo109.html
http://3dhistory.de/word...marck/bismarck-high-res

Searchlights and machine guns will be added a later date so for now the funnel is done. Of all the parts I added I think the power cables to the cranes are my favourite just because they add some animation. I am pleased with how it turned out certainly worth the 3 weeks I have spent exclusively on it BigGrin

And noe for some gratuitous penny shots Flapper
