Nice job Mac, Ive not cut mine away yet, still find it easier in the jig for a few other bits I want to add. Take your time mate, no rush, we have 2 years

You may want to temporarily glue the launch back onto the jig. I found it easier to apply the keel with it back on the jig. Not sure from the pic, but have you fitted gunwhale (the additional top plank along the uppermost edge of the launch) planking? this is also easier to do with the launch on the jig - I did the same thing (cut the launch off a bit early) but tacked the jig formers back together ok. Schnellboots on back burner
Tools.

I always seem to leave it too late in the day for taking photos, not enough light. No not fitted the gunwale as yet, but likely to fit it as you have done slightly below the top edge making room for the oar holes. Probably have been a little premature in cutting off the jig at this point.... ah well still waiting for edition 7 onwards for instructions.....will see how it goes

It's funny how we all look for slightly different approaches. I have cut my launch away from the jig and then cut the tops of the ribs and applied a 45 degree chamfer as detailed in Tomick's official build. I then found that adding the gunwhale at that stage meant I could get a smooth curve along the upper edge of the hull to cover any irregularities on the top edge of the first plank.
I would also be interested to know what people have used for the rubbing boards, I think the planking is too thin but nobody has suggested using anything else. Perhaps a bit of advice please Capt Stedders

I too removed the launch from the jig before adding the gunwhale. The rubbing boards i added using one plank cut in half, then gently sanding a curve to allow me to glue thin edge onto the launch hull with thick super glue. After this had fully set came the gentle task of slowly sanding the boards to shape with a fine grade paper, hope that helps Mike

Thanks Kas
That's probably what I will do, it is just that the planks are so thin. I just might use a thicker plank from another kit(?) When painted the different woods won't matter

After a little more research I will definitely be placing the spare planking for the gunwale below the top edge of the top plank so as to form a wash strake (picking up these nautical terms ) this will be just a little deeper than the oar ports.
