Very very impressive work Alan .In view of the small amount of room left at stem, are you planning a lengthways run of dropers below the last plank working downwards? Kind Regards Nigel

Kind Regards Nigel Thanks for the very nice comment Nigel, very much appreciated.... .. It's the lack of room at the bow and stern that is taking the time to work through and of course causing a great deal of thought.... .. Trying to keep it simple by looking to see how the next plank will lie and and how I can ensure I can progress without resorting to pointy planks..... Having never planked like this before makes it all the more enjoyable, simply to see if I can work out the problems it is bringing up.... .. Droppers are a must as I don't really see any other way around it..... .. Will keep you posted... Regards Alan

Thanks Taz for the very nice comments, appreciated... .. Am not finding it that easy, it requires a lot of forward thinking and testing just to see how the planks want to lay.... .. Happy to say no real curses yet but have had to count to 10 a few times.... .. Thanks again for taking the time to look in and pass comment.... Regards Alan

Have to admit, am finding planking of the lower hull a real big challenge..... am almost there but it has given me some serious head scratching moments... .. Sorry can't post pics just now, batteries on the camera have decided to go into retirement, will have to go and get replacements tomorrow so will post pics then.... .. To those following on behind, take your time and hope like me you will enjoy the challeng the second layer of planking brings... Happy building folks.... Regards Alan

Hi Alan Yes it would seem you have had problems but you also set yourself a very high standard for your first build and finish to your hull , I really admire your stance on not the get a sharp/pointed edge on your planking and it is showing dividends. Stunning build so far and more to come I guess regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi Alan, Second planking should look stunning once sanded i am going to follow suit and try and plank to a min 1/2 a planks thickness. I am going to use the supplied basswood, but sand a very slight chamfer on the edge to define the planking, with a view to painting as the instructions. Regards Claret Also working on: SOTS. Moebius 1/32 Flying Sub with PE & lights.
Waiting in the wings: Polarlights Spindrift from Land of the Giants.
finished: 007 Iconic DB5.

Can't wait to see her at that stage but still a long way to go.... Regards.. Alan

Small update on progress so far... Managed to get new batteries for the camera today so as promised some pics to bring you up to date with the build.... .. Not quite finished the first side but should be able to finish that tomorrow and then get on with the treenailing..... .. Some very tricky planking especially around the stern and the bow and although it may not be perfect it has taught me now how to avoid certain pitfalls... the experiece has been so worth while and I am very happy with how it has turned out so far.... .. Am deliberately leaving the planks long at the stern and intend to trim them after the stern post has been fitted, reason is I intent to plank the keel as well so want to ensure I get a good fit between the hull planking and the keel/stern post planking....
