Falklands War aircraft carrier HMS Invincible has been sold for 2 million, the vessel is to be towed to Turkey and broken up for scrap.
Invincible was launched in 1977 at a cost of 185 million, she has been laid up at Portsmouth since 2005. A Chinese businessman's 5 million bid for the ship was turned down in case China put her back into service with its navy.
Invincible is expected to leave Portsmouth at the end of March, it will take four weeks to tow her to Turkey and eight months for her to be dismantled.
HMS Illustrious is now Britain's only aircraft carrier but has no aircraft because the Harrier has also been scrapped.
