Hi
I have just run out of dull black paint from the admiralty / Jotika victory paint set i bought, there were 3 pots of it in the set so not sure if it was supposed to last for the full build.
Anyway, is there any other brand of paint that has been tested to be the same sheen as the admiralty dull black?
Id have to order the admiralty online whereas i could go out and buy another brand.
Cheers
Steve

Hi Stevie

Have you been rolling the stuff on or something? LOL I know my DelPrado is much smaller at 1/100 scale, but I only bought a single pot and there's still a quarter of the paint left after doing 90% of the hull!
Joking aside, I've always thought the Admiralty Dull Black was a little too shiny for my liking, the Yellow Ochre is also 'Dull' and its a dead matt whereas the Black is more of an eggshell or satin. I find the Citadel Chaos Black is a superb black paint (available from Games Workshop outlets and is a slightly 'matter' finish (longer lasting pot lids too!). Its also better at painting small detail pieces as it doesn't dry up on the brush so quick.
If you want to get the same sheen you could always use a matt or semi-matt varnish, either brushed or sprayed over the entire hull sides which will make all the black paints used the same sheen.
Best of luck with it anyway.

Thanks both,
I have ordered a couple more pots of admiralty from CMB now.

Maybe I was using too much, didnt think i was though, just 2 coats on the hull and main mast, still have the fore and mizzen masts, bow sprit, and gallery to go so not sure how i got through 3 pots of it - unless someone else has been using it,i do have a teenage son into models as well but he swears he has been using his own paints!

I also think its a little too shiny as well but i need to keep it the same now that i have done most of it, its nice and matty on porous wood but shiny on sealed or pre painted wood, I may even clear dull-coat the entire hull when finished.
Cheers
Steve

Some builders add talc to it to dull it down.
