All gun ports now cut out and the top edge trimmed down. I'm going to do a sample panel to try to get the caulking right, some use a pencil and some use felt tip pen, so i intend to try both, ill also use it to have a go at the tree nailing. cheers Stu Cheers Stu

Hi Stu, I followed Alan's process (Gandale) for the caulking. I used very fine sand paper to sand the edges whilst in a plank vice. I then ran a black permanent marker down the edge quickly so as not give it the ink time to bleed into the wood. One or two hic-cups but on the whole came out okay. The treenailing is fun!! 600 cocktails from Poundland, for only £1 I am not doing to much treenailing, only two at each plank end and around the cannon ports. Is time consuming and I tend to do 30 or so at a time just before I finish for the evening to allow to dry. I used a hand drill and 0.5mm drill bits. Snapped 4 so far in the process Regards Claret Also working on: SOTS. Moebius 1/32 Flying Sub with PE & lights.
Waiting in the wings: Polarlights Spindrift from Land of the Giants.
finished: 007 Iconic DB5.

Hi Stu I concur the single edge looks best. You are correct,I did mine in pencil and you do end up with graphite everywhere. My outer planking is 2mm thick so had the material to be able to sand it off.Totally agree on the blades,I expect an invite to Swann Mortons xmas do this year . Kind Regards Nigel

Very nicely done Stu, my decision was to sand the edges, single stroke down the edge with the black permanent marker plus I actually marked both edges and was very pleased with the results.... ..Looking great so keep up the good work... Regards Alan

Ive started the second planking today. and the black boxwood has turned up, the delivery guy left a note saying that he'd put it in the blue bin, but we don't have a blue bin. The only bin outside is the wheelie bin. when i opened it there was my parcel. amongst all the rubbish. going to let the glue dry overnight then cut the excess sapele with a new blade.
