Im a bit stuck. Ive marked the ref line for the first plank of the second layer. However as i lay a plank on the line, its natural fall brings it away from the ref line round the bow.Mad Mad Cursing Cursing if i move it down then the bottom edge of the plank buckles out. i dont think glue only would hold it and if i were to put map pins in it would only pop out between the pins, and i would also struggle with the next layer.
Appologies if this sounds like a daft questionBlushing Blushing Blushing , but i really dont know how to tackle this, as this is my first go. i dont want to mess up at this stage.

Any advice or a picture of a finished bow area would be greatly appreciated BigGrin BigGrin .

in anticipation Stu Confused Confused Confused Confused

Hi Stu,
I had exactly the same issue, I let the first plank sit where it wanted to, like you show. Initially I thought about infilling the gap below with tapered plank pieces, but this then creates a problem for the first of the lower planking, this area will be hidden under the prow, so I don't think it matters.

hi,you can get it to bend where you want it to,first a good soaking, I then use medium superglue, very carefully, with the plank damp, superglue is instant, by using medium or gel,you get about 10 seconds to manipulate the plank.so mark your line and smearing a thin line of s,g,about 6" at a time, work the plank around the bend. asa the wood is damp you can press it on bit at a time. good luck. k.

Thanks Karl.
What is your interpretation of a good soaking, Overnight, an hour, 10mins etc. Also are you talking about a quick dry with a rag then straight on and glueing,

Hi Stu, like Andy I let the plank lay where it wanted to and not try to force it into position. Any forcing into position will likely continue to cause you problems further into the planking session.... Like I said, I let it go where it wanted and continued from there. If you look at my diary you will see it didn't cause an issue and as Andy has said, the prow will cover this area up....BigGrin BigGrin

Hope this helps.

Regards

Alan
