I am now up to Issue 46 the planking of the upper gun deck and thinking about what stain etc. to apply to the decks further in the build.
The official build just recommends varnishing, but I am thinking that this may look a little bland, so I wondered what other members have used to achieve an authentic look to the decks. I am also concerned that using the permanent marker method for the caulking that I may get staining on the deck after sanding which I did on the bow deck even after treating with sanding sealer.
I have searched the Forum for hours but I am still uncertain.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks,
Mick

Hi If you are after a used look then I used "weather it" mixed 50/50 with water and then a coat of danish oil over it. Here's a pic of the finish stevie_o attached the following image(s):

Steve,
Many thanks for your prompt reply.
I really like the finish of your deck, it looks very authentic.
Where can you buy weather-it and what make is the Danish Oil?
Many thanks again,
Mick
