Hi All, Can I have some help from the experts? I just started to planking the upper part of the stern but they are not parallel with the template has been cut out from the magazine. See picture. Do I have to sand the excess part on the bottom off or this won't be visible later on? Also I reckon I have start tapering the planks to get them parallel with the template when I reach the top? Cheers Gingerale

Hi Gingerale, I would not worry to much it is not that far out. Once you have completed the the planking to the top you can use the template to make the correct shape. I had one side ok and one side off a little just like you are. Much of this area gets covered by the gallery anyway. If you need to ad an extra plank at the top, this gets cut down to form the Poop deck sides so any correction will disappear. hi gingerale, although jase is quiet right, the reason for the discrepancy is that some of the lower planks should have been tapered,as in the instructions, it is important at this stage to follow the instruction to the letter, for when you come to do the lower hull, problems will occur if you don't taper the bow section, and get used to the idea of the stealers and droppers, and take a good look at other builds, at all will be well. good luck k. Hi Karl,
I'm keep trying to follow the instructions by letter as this is my first wooden ship I build but sometimes they are not quite clear or full. It has been told that on the bow we have to taper the planks but at the stern it has been mentioned just for few lower row of planks what I followed.
Unfortunately the official build diary has nearly the same text what is on the magazine. I thought on the beginning that the diary will be much detailed and will add more tips/tricks/details what would be useful specially for the beginners.

Hi All, I got an other question regarding the planks. As soon they are reached the maximum height do they have to be parallel with the keel? Also in my model at the stern I have a slight bend on it (see picture, the blue line representing the bend is overdone). Is it a problem or will it be sanded straight/parallel later on? Cheers Gingerale

hi ginger, the planks follow the line of the decks, which means that they rise slightly towards the bow and stern, no straight lines at all, just a gentle curve. this is made obvious with the first plank that you fix. karl1113 attached the following image(s): Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/
